I'd like to start an evening HF net for THR members and other gun owners. I'm thinking Tuesday evenings around 3560kHz or 7030 kHz depending on conditions.

I'd prefer to run a digital net with MT63 or PSK, but if there aren't enough set up for that, SSB voice around 3900 kHz or 7200 kHz would be great too.

    Anybody want to join in?

PTT, I'd love to, but I'm spending more time with my wife lately, as some health issues are keeping me down.

I love CW, SSTV, FSTV, and most digital modes, and dabbled with satellite and Mir and Shuttle crew comms., when I lived in Maryland. I have been inactive since the mid 90s, but help setup the packet radio system with modified Motorola commercial radios on mountaintops here in Arkansas, years ago, but quit that when the internet took off.

I'd love to get back into it, but just don't feel like it at the moment. I'm hoping that will change!

My call is KG5JJ, and I've been licensed since 1977. You may have seen my signature?

I have an old kenwood 830 but I need a nee mic and I need to rebuild my antenna. Maybe this Spring or Summer I can get it up and running.

An HF net would be fun, but I don't do that much digital other than CW or RTTY. I could play around with some PSK again, and get back up to speed with it. I have not used MT63, so it would be interesting to find out what that's all about.

I'm rebuilding the HF station and don't have the best antenna. I'll come up on the frequency and see if I can be heard.

KD5ZGX here, I'd be interested if the bands cooperate.

Darn, now I want a HF setup..

All I have is a technician license so I'll need to fix that first.

Maybe we could do something through the WINSystem for us 2m/70cm folk? Not sure if that would work due to the obvious limitations of those frequencies.

I'd recommend Fldigi. You can do everything in that program.

I see you're from New Mexico...I run a 'NM Gun Talk' net Tuesdays at 7PM local time on the Megalink. If you're in range of one of the NM5ML repeaters, you should join us.

My goal is to set up nets for people to still be able to talk if regular comms were down. Locally, I run a statewide net on a linked repeater network, but I'm trying to get people to migrate to HF.

KC5BKD here, been a LONG time since I was on the air. I lost my radio gear a few years back, this might be the "sign from God" to get started back into it. I would need to upgrade my license a couple of levels, but that has been on the to-do list for a while. (note to self, send in renewal paperwork to FCC next month).

I would love to be able to set up an emergency network, and get back into a hobby that has died away since the internet took off.

    Rally frequency?

How do you all feel about setting up some rally frequencies?

Any interested parties can monitor these frequencies and when you first show up if the frequency is not active, call "CQ THR de ______" on digital or "CQ Tango Hotel Romeo this is _______" on SSB voice and see if you get a response.

    Daytime
    20m digital, 14.080 dial frequency+1500 PSK31 or MT63/500 if conditions are bad.
20m voice, 14.340 USB dial frequency

    Evening
40m digital, 7.045 dial frequency+1500 PSK 31 or MT63/500 if conditions are bad.
    40m voice, 7.270 LSB dial.

If anybody expresses interest, I'll monitor when I can and see if we get anybody. We'll just make it a roundtable informal unless it gets too busy, then we'll set up some prime time nets.

If this works out, I'll put up another thread and ask the mods to sticky it.

    For VHF/UHF Guys...

If you don't have HF capability, find another THR member locally if at all possible to relay you in.

If you have HF capability, post your city, state or grid square here to advertise availability. Try something like 146.55 MHz or 446.5 MHz to get in touch by simplex if at all possible. If not, use a repeater.

My grid is DM62OJ and I have VHF/UHF FM capability. I can get into most of El Paso, TX via repeaters and can get all of NM via the NM Megalink VHF/UHF.

I'm game. On HF I run PSK almost exclusively, but I'll use voice if I have to :)

I'm in upstate SC, grid EM94 and seem to have a duct into Texas.......

Over the weekend I'll monitor the PSK rally frequencies off and on as I can, and maybe do a bit of SSB. Hope to meet one of you on the air.

Hopefully we can get this thing to the point where there's always a frequency we can hop onto if THR were to suddenly not work for whatever reason...

Then you must have gotten the question on band privilages wrong. You have voice privilages on 10m and CW/RTTY on most of the HF bands. You can talk around the globe with a tech license alone.

I picked up my General Licesne a while ago, but I don't even own a Radio yet.

Maybe someone could help a new Ham out?

Tech. license here as well. Even though I got my ticket when you had to take 2 tests to get it; I am aware of the "plus" privileges we have now. I have a Kenwood TS-520 w/remote VFO. First yr. model, 12v capable, no WARC bands.
Sadly, CCR's prevent me from having a good antenna. I am mostly on 1.25m. (Kenwood Tri-bander) I go to 2m when it's dead on 220mhz. 70cm is useless here, 5 watt limit due to PAVE PAWS.
This is a great idea, PTT! Hopefully, we can find a way to make it work. I was thinking Echolink or IRLP? Not sure what works anymore. I'll watch this thread for updates :) .

Like another responder, my mobile rig died leaving me with just my FT-817. Don't think 5 watts is enough to make it ;-) I suspect radio and firearms both appeal to the kind of person interested in technology and DIY.

I truly believe that you are NOT going to get the sort of lively interplay and full discussion on any of the digital modes that are truly workable. Especially relative to the issues that brought us to the High Road to begin with.............I, for one am a competent CW op, but I'm a bit old fashioned and still use a hand key.........at my age and stage I'm not likely to change and in truth round tabling major issues digitally might be just too much to bear.

As an aside, I've seen this very same suggestion fielded on several sites I frequent and the only one that has had even minimal participation to my knowledge is the AR15 one and even that seems to be an off and on again thing.

I'm game, I'm an extra, I have the gear and HF anywhere into the U.S. is OK by me. I'll avoid dropping my call sign until something jells in terms of f/t/d and mode.

By the way, my take is that 60m, might just be a good call..........one at least has generally open spectrum even if the power restrictions are minimal..............just an idea

I'm on 14.080 monitoring for PSK-31 right now. I'll be in and out of the room, so if you don't hear something, just wait a bit and I'll get back to you.

I'll switch to 40m sundown and monitor part of the evening as well.
