any ideas for a new project rifle?

well my dad called today and asked em when im coming home from school for christmas break and what i want, i told him the date and that i had no idea except either a nice CB and a whip for my truck, a new reloading press, or a new project rifle.


what would be a good project rifle? id like it to be another milsurp but not another mosin(i have 4) any ideas? i want to keep the price reasonable as in below 250

Saiga 7.62x39. Not really milsurp, but close.

Convert it to AK47 configuration. Not hard, not expensive, easy to find parts & tutorials on the web, could come in useful in the future....

Enfield (Ishapore?) or a Arisaka perhaps? Enfield has a lot of wood.

Same here, I don't even care to have two rifles in the same chambering unless they fill separate roles.

$500+ from what I have seen, the bolt guns will run $300+.

Arisaka, love the cartridge, hate the cost!!!! Ooh, I know, what about a jungle carbine enfield? Cost may be a bit too high on that, or a 30 carbine?
I would suggest a carcano, but those little clips are a major pain, if they are not loaded just right,
you will get several jams. No way Pres Kenedy got hit twice, while moving, with one of these...

i just have to buy brass and projectiles for the arisaka and i just remembered that there is an arisaka sitting on the shelf poorly restored at the shop i think the price is 150 so i may do that it needs a few pieces for the rear sight and the stock is painted a dark red (not stained painted) i may pick it up and get my pop to pay me for it as my christmas present

i got an M1 already

not a fan of the jungle carbines

you know ive never played with a carcano at all what model did jfk get shot with? that would be an interesting piece

My idea of a project rifle...

Surgeon action. Accuracy International or Manners stock, Night Force or S&B scope, chambered in 6XC.

the post ww1 one; 6.5mm, a little smaller, some of them have been sporterized.
Another great cartridge, almost exactly like a 243,almost like a 260 remmy as well; you can almost fit 243 carts in the clip. and milsurp ammo is not a lot. but it is a pain; those damnable clips!!!! plus once you load one, you cannot unload, or take out, until the clip is empty, and it falls out.

Saiga is way over $250. Mine was almost double that when I finished converting it.

I would get an old SKS and fix it up real nice They are simple guns that are fun to shoot.

how about doing a lee speed clone on a SMLE No.1 Mk III action in 375/303.
you don't see many high quality enfield sporting rifles & even less of them with a big bore.
there is a guy in new zealand or austrailia that makes repro stocks, the leaf & ladder sights are almost impossible to find so you would probably have to make your own.
i need to build me a 375/303 so my 303 lee speed can have a buddy

i like the sks idea most of all since i dont have a semi auto except my 10/22. it think theres a gun show the weekend before christmas.

id loe a large bore enfield and im actually saving up for the SIA .45acp conversion but the .375/303 is very cool i will have to do research. a trimmed barrel would possibly make an awesome bear rifle. and itll give me something to do with my no4 barreled receiver i ahve

take a 91/30, have a mannlicher stock made for it by Wenig gun stocks. cut the barrel down to 20". pillar bed the rear of the action and glass bed the recoil lug and the full length of the barrel channel. Throw on some mojo sights and have an awesome hunting rifle.

Swiss k31. Already accurate just needs some fine tuning and a handload or two.
