In my last truck (an '06 Chevy extended cab) I had a permanent holster mount. I am often in my truck for hundreds of miles at a time or on the farm, and it is more reasonable to carry my sidearm in a permanently mounted holster in the truck.

In my '06 I had a Serpa attached to a rig (I forget who makes it) that allows you to mount a holster in almost any angle or configuration on a premanent basis. In the '06 it was mounted immediately behind the center console, bolted down in the back floorboard. This was a perfect location as I could easily reach it (I am 6'2" and have long arms) and it could not be seen if the vehicle was parked as the back windows were tinted dark enough that you cannot see in.

I will probably do the same thing in this truck ('09 extended cab chevy), but the only cupholders in the back are right in front of where the holster would be mounted and they cannot fold down for use if the holster is installed. I have children that ride in the back, and they need cupholders!

Does anybody have a better idea (it needs to be accessible, not closed up in a compartment that does not open extremely quickly) for a permanent mount?

crossbreed ohai - put Velcro wherever you want it, use a cheapie velcro strap for additional retention if you really want more than the Ohai provides alone.

or, you know ... mount the gun to the driver in some kind of holster/belt combination.

Cheaper than dirt sells a magnetic mount that I think is great. You can mount it just about anywhere, and it will work with whatever handgun you decide to cary that day. You are not stuck with one option.

I agree that mounting the gun to the driver is a good idea. However, I am usually going into government buildings when I travel. Going into a government building in Arkansas while carrying concealed is a good way to see the inside of a jail cell. Also, pulling it out of the holster while in the parking lot is somewhat obvious, even while sitting in the truck.

Has anyone tried the Fobus Roto Holster mount? I think that might work if I mount it offset behind the passenger seat to the floor up toward the "hump" in the middle floorboard.
