Vehicle holster mounts, any recommendations?

The wife is looking for a new console or under-dashboard holster mount option for her SUV.

In the past, we've used the magnet mounts or wedged holsters between the seat and center console. She's not happy with the magnet system I put on her dash, and after searching the internet, I can't find anything that stands out as being better than anything else. Reviews of the various commercial products are all over the map (it appears the more experienced gun folk are the most critical).

Does anyone have any recommendations for something other than magnet systems that works for them? Ideally, I'd like to attach a kydex holster to the left side of the console hump just forward of the right front edge of the driver seat, within easy reach of the right hand of a tall woman.

She's currently driving a late model Chevy Traverse. If you have something that works for you, brand names or how you put a rig together, and what components you used, that'd be great. Pics an additional bonus.

Any tips would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks, good folk of THR.

Whatever you do use make sure it is solidly mounted. If you ever get in an accident the pistol can become a very heavy hard projectile. I had a frien who used a magnet mount in his taho and was rear ended the gun hit him in face hard enough to require stiches.

G-Code RTI set up. Ditch the self adhesive loop velcro that comes with it and buy industrial. Clean with alcohol, and install with hair dryer. Both available on Amazon.

G-CODE RTI Vehicle MOUNTING System (Black) 100% Made in USA https://a.co/d/b76mkrP

G-Code only makes holsters that are in common use by mil/first responder, but ANR Design will make just about anything with the RTI interface. I have a few RTI mounts, vehicle, paddle, drop leg, and molle. So I can pull holster off of belt and click in place under my steering column. Make sure you pay attention to "handedness" and what side your mount is on in relation to how your are going to mount it in the vehicle.

I work out of my truck in a prohibited place, but here is a picture of my mount under my steering column. (21 Tundra for reference)

I was hoping for some more input. I drive an acadia denali and a jeep wrangler. I have scratched my head till it's sore for a solution and haven't come up with anything even remotely usable.

It's a complicated topic.

For one, there are any number of competing State regulations on what "safe storage" actually "is." And application of those rules to vehicles is, typically, clear like mud in a flood. (Current edition of the FL no-permit law, if enacted, will make it harder to vehicle carry.)

And, cars represent very visible targets-of-opportunity that are often left unattended for hours. And in very anonymous lots. Look at a parking lot, it's basically a blur of vehicles. Look at any one vehicle, and you are no longer looking at the rest.

If you are a company that makes either holsters or lock boxes, that's a lot of "deck" stacked up against you. Which makes it hard to turn out a profitable product.

Which means the 'average consumer' is kind of stuck. You kind of have to choose between a cable-tie lockbox or getting something sturdy like one of the FAS1 boxes, and performing surgery on the center console.

Sadly, we in the "gun community" are a minority as far as SAE is concerned, so "our" needs are no addressed so much in vehicle interior design.

I was torn between the center console by my right calf, or the steering column. Steering column won out due to presentation angle, and not having to order a left hand holster to accommodate placing on the driver side of my center console.

Now that I am home, some pics of the RTI module removed, whole setup with Glock 19 in place, and an example of the male portion of the RTI interface.

@Mot45acp: thanks for pics!

Either this sub-forum doesn't get a lot of traffic, or not many folks have the need or desire to seek a vehicle-mounting solution.

While I appreciate the confirmation that heavy objects on/under/attached to a dashboard or steering column can become airborne at high velocity upon impact of a collision (I used to respond to MVAs/TCs quite regularly), I'm pretty confident that with technology there is a viable and safe solution. Will it always be a compromise? Of course. I'm simply looking for options other than what are commercially marketed and available (much of the crap on Amazon is overpriced and poorly constructed of inferior materials.

I have some ideas, and when the concept comes to fruition, I'll share them. In the meantime, let me just say that safe storage is not a worry; my wife (highly trained, but works in an NPE, typically wears surgical scrubs to and from work, hence on-body carry not really doable) just wants something for her P-365 (w/safety) capable of being rapidly accessed say, at a stoplight or drive-through. When she gets to work, she has secure parking and can easily stow her pistol in the anchored lockbox.

When I ordered a set of Wet Okole seat covers for my 2019 RAM Limited, I chose the option for pouches than are stitched in front of the driver and passenger covers than can hold a variety of small handguns, cell phones and similar items. They are very low visibility and low profile, but right between your legs if you need to draw. There is a potential issue with sweeping body parts when drawing, but proper trigger finger discipline can address that.

I made one from leather that fits in a cup holder for a bud and saw one on the WWW and made my own. I made it with KYDEX with a leather lining. Do a search for cup holder holster.

An old boss of mine crafted a very nice kydex and leather holster for me. Despite its fine quality, I didn't like the way it carried.... so instead of tossing it out, I mounted it inside the console of my armada. It's perfect.
And that seems to me the way to go. We all have a box of holsters we didn't care for. Grab one of those and mount it to wherever you wish.

Neither can I. That's what lock boxes that get hidden under the seat are for.

Really. It needs to be locked up, better than the car door locks.

Some normal wearable quick detach holster on her person for when she's not at work, and a cabled lock box (at least) for when she is.

Well sure. But what about when you wanna keep it at hand while you're driving? If for no other reason than to make the drive more comfortable without a hunk of metal strapped to you?

My under steering column RTI mount is for when I am occupying the vehicle. I can then attach holster to RTI mount on belt if I'm wearing one (which is rarely) or just relocate gun to my belt holster (most likely scenario). Third option is to lock it up in my center console gun safe.

I did this many years ago. Loved it.

My 01 gmc Sierra has a plastic panel below the radio. It can be pulled down & used to conceil a full sized handgun. Also, my F150 fuse box panel is just about right for a snub 38.
