Hey everyone,

I make kydex gear on the side and sell a few pieces on ebay every now and then. One thing I noticed is that there are very few options for people who want a kydex pouch for their AR10/LR308/etc rifle magazines. There is one option on ebay, and it doesn't look very secure. Other options from Blade-Tech and Safariland are expensive and don't have that cool, fitted, "pancake" look that kydex products are known for. I could sell these for $20 shipped and still make enough money to make it worth my time.

So what do you folks think? Should I try making a few AR10 magazine pouches? I've been experimenting with 550 Paracord belt loops on my other magazine pouches. I like them so far. Feedback appreciated!

Blade-tech option (link to Brownell's listing): http://www.brownells.com/shooting-a...s/ar-10-tek-lok-magazine-pouch-prod24902.aspx

Safirland option (link to Midway listing): http://www.midwayusa.com/product/94...ringfield-armory-m1a-ar-10-lr-308-kydex-black

Current "custom" kydex option ($36?? Seems a bit spendy): http://www.bravoconcealment.com/products/copy-of-ak-mag-pouch

Picture of my experiment with 550 cord belt loops:

FWIW a piece that would be sold would be finished a little nicer than this. Flat sides, rounded corners, no sharp edges, etc.

You're going to need to create a proper way to secure the pouch to a belt. Para cord is just going to make it flop and bounce around, especially with something as heavy as an AR mag in it.

Sure, give it a try. Personally, I don't like kydex rifle mag pouches but others do. I think your pouch in the picture is too short, at least for belt use. The mag would be top heavy and want to flop around too much, especially with the paracord belt loops. Make a couple and try them out. Do some shooting and moving, jump, drop to cover, run, roll over them. Put them through what they need to hold up to. You'll be better able to talk to customers about what they're good for if you've done it.

I can't imagine you'll sell too many. I bet the number of AR 10 kydex mag pouches sold is super-small and you'll be trying to capture a segment of that which will depend on your internet marketing abilities.

If you do make them, go with a standard belt loop setup. Even if the para cord works well, the perceived value won't be there for the buyer when they see that.

On the Blade Tech model, $10 of the cost is in the Tek-Lok attachment system. I love the Tek-Lok and buy them ala-carte for my kydex mag/speed loader pouch projects.
