Any Multi-Tool Recommendations?

Is there a light weight one with a strong and reliable wire cutting capability that I can carry bird hunting. I need to be able to get my dog untangled if he ever gets into barbed wire. Thanks

I bought a gerber diesel because you can slide out the pliers using one hand. Unfortunately after a couple of months the parts that lock the pliers into place once they slide out broke. I replaced it with a leatherman wave. That thing is awesome, I didn't realize it until I got the Leatherman but the gerber just seemed like the materials and construction were of lesser quality. There may very well be better gerbers out there but my leatherman has been through hell and back and I haven't so much as scratched the thing.

My understanding is that the best multi-tools are made by Leatherman and SOG. I have one SOG and the orginal Gerber design.

Most of the lightweight ones are not going to cut barbed wire...that stuff is tough. You're gonna need one of the big ones...Surge, Wave, Core, Super. Frankly, if I were going to come up against barbed wire regularly, I'd take a full sized lineman's pliers or something. But I think the Surge, which is huge, (all above are Leatherman) would do the trick. It also has a file with a cutting edge so if you got into so seriously thick tough wire, you could cut it that way.

BTW, those early Bucktools are awesome if you want something where you can just flip the pliers open...the pliers are the sturdiest I've seen, ever.

I've owned one for a long time, 20 years anyhow, or pretty close. The tools are kinda short and I don't like the way the handles on the pliers move around when you're gripping with 'em. But, it's got the best knife blade on any of the tools I've owned. I have it on my "survival gun belt" which has some items in pouches around it for survival situations. It is light weight and it's the only knife on that belt, adequate for cleaning small game.
