just picked up a 1907 351 SL. got a decent one at a decent price at last show here. whats the base case ..was told to use 357 max. but i am thinking by the time you buy this brass and do the lathe work your almost what you would be with buying a box or two. some out there make this stuff from what base case.. any others ? any info will help. do you need 351 dies or will 357 dies work?
also thinking cast slugs like 160 -170 grn. but size them to what dia?
thanks. Phil

Buffalo Arms sells formed brass. http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,165.html
They don't say what they make it out of, but .357 Max would be a good bet. Nonte, writing before the Max came out, said to use .357 Magnum and just put up with it coming out .090" short.

Bullet diameter is really, truly .351" jacketed, .352" cast.
I don't know if a .38 Special die would size brass small enough to hold a .352" bullet.
B.A. sells .351 dies, too; $57.75 for the least expensive (Redding?)

180 grain Jacketed bullet-IMR 4227 19.5 grains max, 17 start

thanks guys. that helps . Greg, i see your from GR. were you at the show too. thats where i found the 1907. your close . I am in Holland/Hamilton area. Phil

I have a four digit 1907 which I have shot a couple times with factory ammo. It lived a long hard life on South Texas ranches and killed heaven knows how many gators, deer, or other critters. With decent factory ammo it has managed about 3" groups at 50 yards, but the open sights are very hard to see.

One of the things I would like to do is find a tang sight to fit it, but it has a very unusual mounting pattern, with about 13/16" between the mounting holes. If I can find (or improvise) a tang sight I'd like to see if it shoots better - if it does then I'll probably buy the dies and load for it.

Hawk bullets makes correct diameter soft jacketed bullets for it, they can be found at www.hawkbullets.com. I suspect somebody made high(er) capacity magazines for them, and it would be interesting to find one of those, too.

These are pretty interesting rifles - while some folks derided them a 180 grain bullet at 1800 fps is no puffcake load - they are effective old rifles.
