Any one use Super Target loading 45acp?

I used to load .45 152 gr lead shooting a compensated 45 in IPSC
and I loaded 7.6 grains of super target with my 152 gr bullet and always made major power factor and the comp did its job.
Things have changed, now I am shooting IDPA and I just bought 1000 200gr FMJ
I still have alot of Super Target so I would like to continue to use it as it has launched many thousnds of rounds and stayed very consistent. But Super Target is a shotgun powder so there is no loading data in the manuals.I know someone out there has used this for pistol as it is common in competitive shooting. The man that built my comp gun recomended this load but has since passed and I would like a load for my 200gr FMJ round if any one is familiar loading with Super Target. Any one have a good load for 200FMJ for IDPA not to hot, but not too cold that the gun dosent cycle?

super target in 45 acp

I shoot about 4.8 gr winchester super target using 200 gr jacketed hollow points. Found velocity about the 840 fps mark.

If you shoot ppc using lead 148 hbwc 1.8 gr of super target makes a great ppc load.

winchester super target is a great powder. I use it almost exclusively in my 45acp target loads with 200 grain cast swc bullets. check the winchester site for load information.

Unfortunatly Winchester dosent offer loading data for a 45ACP using a shotgun
powder. Thats why I have approached the many wise people here.

WST is a very good powder. Meters very well, accurate and clean. Not as clean as some, like Clays, but IMO it's splitting "hairs" at that point.

On Winchester's site, if you go to reloading manual, centerfire pistol, last page, they have data for the 45.

I use 4.1 gr. of WST with a 200 gr. LSWC as my PPC load out of a 5" Les Baer. This is a wimp load that shoots fantastic and still cycles my gun reliably. Never used WST with a jacked slug however.

Well my IDPA gun is a Les Baer SRP and it has been cycling the 152gr swc with out any FTF issues
but these 200gr ought to work a little better. Thanks everyone for your input

I have used 5.0 grains Winchester Super Target under 200 grain bullets of varying types including the Lasercast RNBB, Hornady's FMJ-SWC and other hardcast SWC bullets for the last 5+ years. I have used it successfully as an IPSC load. Will take down bowling pins if you place the bullet correctly, but is generally considered a little too weak for this discipline. This load cycles well through the 1911A1 and I also use it in my S&W 625. Should also be a good load for IDPA. Good luck!

What's their "match" load?

Prior to Federal discontinuing group-testing every batch of their GMM line the Marine team used their ammo. Afterwards, the load developed for them was 4.1 grains of N-310 under 185 grain Nosler JHP's in new, primed, Winchester brass. I've no idea if it remains the same. Its a top-notch bullseye load but too soft to cycle a lot of guns running stock springs. I read an article (Shooting Sports USA, IIRC) that claimed that if a team gun don't shoot that load, its rebuilt, the load isn't changed.

4.8gr to 5.0gr WST works well with 200gr cast lead bullets in both my CZ97b and other folks' 1911s.

Check the Hodgdon website or their Annual Manual for more information about WST.

WST is a very good .45 powder for light to medium plinker/target loads.

As you stated, you will have to work up a load on your own, or get some loads from someone who has since there is very little data available.

I worked up some nice loads with bullets from 185 to 230 grs, but made an error in my recording, so my data is flawed. I have not worked most of it back up.

It is accurate, burns real clean, and gives low recoil/muzzle flip. Good stuff for light to medium .45 loads.

When I was shooting USPSA hot and heavy (3-4 matches a month for about 5 years) my standard load in .45 ACP was a 200 grain SWC with 5.1 of WST. Usually used Winchester brass for matches and whatever was on hand for practice, with Winchester primers. Very economical and very accurate (One hole 8 shot groups at 25 yards from two different tricked out 1911 Limited guns).
