Hello everyone, I am new to this board but not to handguns. I have been lurking for quite some time, and have decided to join in.

Are there any other fans/owners of the Springfield Xd series here? I have a subcompact and have been utterly impressed by its performance and price.

It has been dependable almost to the point of boring and is the one that I grab if I'm going to carry. It also appears to do well in the safety dept. I love the chambered round indicator and the ability to be able to tell in total darkness if it's cocked and locked, just by feel.

Now if I could just stop my wife from hogging it at the range..

I have been to the XD froum but I also have other autos so I figured I'd start posting here also.--Rob

Hi, and Welcome here, even though myself is just another newbie:)

I'm very interested in the Springfield XD's, or should I say Croatian HS2000 as they used to be. They are like Glocks, only better. They got the same silly trigger safety as the Glocks, same polymer frame, same striker-fired consistent DAO-like trigger pull, then they got 1911 grip angle and grip safety, and a SIG-like take down lever.

I like the Sub the best as I was told you could get three fingers on the grip, instead of just two like on a Glock 26/27/33. Is this true?

The only thing bad I heard of them, is the the blue finish is kind of crummy, not at all like the Glock's Tenifer finish. So the Bi-tone or hard chromed version is like a must. I got these from the XD/HS2k forum.

Tell us more about your experiece with that XD Sub...:)

Yes, there are several other XD owners who lurk in the shadows here. I have an XD40 in the 5" Tactical version and love it. It has become my everyday carry piece because of dependability, accuracy and safety. I have over 2,500 rounds through mine without a hitch though it doesn't like dirty ammo like Wolf or Grizzly. (Mostly that cheap Russian or Turkish stuff.) I have found that the 165 grainers are the most accurate in mine with average groups being around 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches at 10 yards. I have replaced the factory sites with Xpress Big Dot Tritium sites. These are good quick acquistion sites and work well on a pistol intended to be a service piece like this one and not a target pistol.

I like mine.

I absolutely LOVE my bi-tone XD-9! 450 rounds through it so far without a hint of a problem. I originally wanted the sub-compact but was told at that time (last February) it wouldn't be available until July - so I went ahead and got the standard 4" service model. Of course the subs started showing up a couple of weeks later! Oh well... no regrets... the 4" isn't THAT much larger than the sub and I love shooting it. I also love that I can have legal high-cap mags by putting 15 rounds of 9mm into a 10-round XD-40 mag and using it in my XD-9. I may end up with a sub yet though - to keep my 4" company.

There seems to be a growing base of XD fans here - but unfortunately there are also still some here who have never even held - much less fired - one, but will not hesitate to bash it for no good reason. Run a search and you'll see what I mean. Much like the Hi-Point threads on here - the bashers don't have any firm basis for disliking it so they simply resort to calling it "ugly". Whatever... I guess that's the price you pay for being the new kid on the block. It'll probably take a little more time for the XD to prove itself - but it will.

Welcome aboard!

Yep, I got one, an XD-9. And yep, my wife hogs it at the range. So now I have a new shooting partner. I have to pry it out of her hand to get my turn with it but it's a joy to shoot. The 40 cal. hi cap is a nice plus too. I'm used to having 7 or 8 rounds in my .45.

*looks down on my hip*

Yup, I'm a fan of the HS2000/XD pistols. If they could keep the crisp (for a plastic guns standards) trigger break, and the Glock's reset and overtravel...I'd love this gun even more. I even like the crummy finish and holster wear. :)

Welcome to THR.

Big XD fan. Like many XD owners, I own a Glock too. I like the XD a little better. As others have mentioned, be aware of the finish. I like the features of the XD; I wish Glock would incorporate a couple of these features in their guns.

Great! I am glad that there are others here who like the XD. I think it's totally funny that someone else has to share theirs with the wife. Beware of sharing your Xd with your spouse!!

I do agree that it is a somewhat of an ugly gun, but I really don't care about that much as long as it goes bang when I want it to.

How are you guys carrying yours besides that methods pictured above?--Rob

Yep, love my XDs. I have a XD-9 and a XD-40 Tactical. Both have worked flawlessly since new. I really hope they get a XD-45 out and that it works as well as the others.

I also am an XD fan. I have gone shopping twice for the Glock I have always wanted, the first time came home with a Sig 229 and the second with an XD 9. Have never look back either... Am very pleased with the performance of both..

To be determined for me. Waiting on the XD9 Tactical. Hopefully it will be released in Bi-Tone.

Love my XD357sig. One of the best out there. Glocks have nothing on the XD. Im thinking of getting a 40cal barrel from bar-sto for it. I put one of Dons Guide Rods from the XD forum in it and like the setup very well. XDs are the future. Just got a Frist #8 close cropped ccw holster and also use a Fobus roto holster occasionally...like the leather better.

Hello from yet another newbie ...

I love my XD9 sub. I used to have a Glock 26, and love that pistol as well. As far as getting three fingers on the grip of the XD sub, I'd have to say ... "Almost." The pinky doesn't quite fit, but there's more room than on the g26. The pinky, for me, ends up resting right in front of and touching the mag floorplate. I have medium-sized hands, by the way. The grip is much more comfortable than the g26 to me, and the gun points much more naturally. I will own Glocks again, and my experience with the XD has convinced me that I will have the backstrap on any future Glocks cut down for a better grip angle.

I carry it in a leather Fist clip IWB with a forward cant, purchased from Gunner's Alley (http://www.gunnersalley.com).

Regards,
Liam

Quick question, does the XD-9 have an integral safety lock? My dealer says that they do (and are thus legal for sale in MD), but I've never heard of an XD with one.

My girlfriend just bought an XD-40 not to long ago. I was very impressed by the accuracy and how well it fits both her and my hands. The only complaint I have with it is the finish, but I have get really nitpicky to even complain about that. If they ever come out with an XD-45 I think I will have to pick one up.

Ever since its introduction I think that every gun friend that I have has expressed a great liking for the XD pistols. Most have said that they would purchase one if financially possibly or if it came out in .45 for one friend.

I on the other hand have not taken a liking to them at all. I don't really think they are a bad pistol however, I think they are just as ugly as a Glock and can't stand when they are portrayed as "prettier than a Glock and better than a SIG".

my .02 cents.
