I bought myself a Springfield XD9 Subcompact and had a chance to take it to the range a few days ago. Not sure what compelled me to do so since I already have a Glock 26 and a Glock 19. I just wanted a new 9mm to play with.
Impressions: The XD is pretty close to the size of the Glock 26 but feels heavier. With a Pierce +0 magazine extension the butt of the XD is about as long as the butt of a G19. Even longer with the 16 round magazine that came bundled with the Springfield.
Right out of the box I shoot the XD MUCH better than my 26, which I’ve been shooting for about 6 months. Maybe it’s because the XD slide is heavier(?). I also think the trigger of the XD is much smoother than the Glock, though I’ve never had anything against the Glock trigger. I was getting extremely tight groups with the XD. I look forward to more opportunities to take it to the range.
Something I just like about the simplicity of the XD and Glocks; very few parts, simple to operate and they are rugged. I don't think one will ever replace the other in my collection. I like 'em all!
