What do I think? I think, as somebody who opposes every fundamental political tenet that you express, that you should continue with your current career path. I doubt that a degree in political science will prepare you to do much more than what you're currently doing, as far as having an effect on such issues.

1) Marry money. BIG money.

2) Failing that, make yourself indispensable to those who have it.

3) Ignore my advice and get deeply interested in the world and the possibilities of liberty.

I work in the legal system, and am an LEO by statute, which puts me in position of rubbing elbows with politicians almost daily. My advice:

1. Go to law school. Politicians are generally in a position of either writring or enforcing laws. A law school education will help should you get in one of those positions. It will also help with the public speaking aspect of the job.

2. Practice law for a while. Try a job as a prosecutor or defense attorney. This will give you contact with the real people that you would be serving, and in a situation where you actually have to learn to talk with them, to make yourself understood, and also to understand them.

3. Develop a thick skin, and control your anger. Politicians get abused. Your ability to deal with it will be essential. Learn to listen before speaking, and answering rather than reacting.

4. Become a good sport and a poor loser all at the same time. You should never like losing, but you also need to be a good sport about it.

5. Money, or connections to money are essential, because campaigns cost money, and much of it will come from your pockets.

6. Keep your word. Don't promise what you can't deliver.

Politics is the art of the possible. Therefore, your "principles" will only come into play once you are too big to stop. Until that time you are going to have to play ball with one side or the other or you will not be taken seriously.

I find your stances on the various issues to be naive, but I suspect you are young. To be successful, you will have to play the status quo for suckers and then do what you want, but only when you are too big to stop.

For people that disagree, I can show you hordes of street corner preachers telling passersby the world is ending, come to Jesus, whatever. They are serious as all get out and committed to change, but nobody listens to them, trust me. ;)
