I'm in agreement with pete409, break the tacticools and the HD crowd off into their own paranoid group.

that's why i hang over at Shotgun world. i just shoot clays now,just swing by here on occasion.

I go "rough shooting" as often as i can but do
enjoy Sunday mornings clay shooting with my 2 sons
and their friend (sometimes they get better scores than me)
I'm a member of an informal club which shoots every other week,
Anything goes as long as it's done safely.
ie. shooting from the hip.
On the oposite Sunday we all go to one of the more "formal"
shoots.You know over here in the UK we call em the green wellie brigade.
£250 for a pair of boots and a tweed suit with matching cap.
When we arrive they all look down their noses at us but does it matter.
4 of us all in army surplus cammo gear kids carrying "pumps" me with a cheap "auto"
While they have £4000 or more in gun over their arm.
What really gets them is "we usually get better scores"even my
9 year old son beat a guy using a gun costing £150 .
The guy told me after that his O/U set him back £12,000
(think he needed his head looking at or new glasses)

Go back and read this statement. It basically says "this is the best...so now let's change it".
There are a number of forums that are divided up into all sorts of sub-categories. Makes it exceedingly difficult to navigate.
I have a really novel idea.....If you don't want to read about a particular subject, I'd suggest you not click on it. I've seen enough Saiga threads to lose lunch every time I see one. I have less than zero use for even one more "Best Shotgun for HD or zombies", but I still want the format as simple as possible.
And yes, I have a Weatherby Orion II SC model

I would be interested. I am getting into sporting clays now and it is a lot of fun. We were out this morning in a tournement with 20 to 30 mph winds and boy those are hard to hit!
The wind always makes it tough, for the shooter and the target setter.
We are shooting at The Meadows National Gun Club in Macon Ga tomorrow, and we are expecting winds around 15 to 20 mph.
The Meadows has some wide open areas that give some real trouble in high winds.

Important lesson learnt today.
Had an acident at work on friday(self employed so no claim)
Xray later showed 2 broken ribs and doctor suspects partially
detatched chest muscle.(He gave injury a name but i can't
rember what it was because of the HAPPY pills they gave me)
So like a fool i went clay shooting this morning(Sunday)
Gun felt comfortable in shoulder so no problem i thought.
How wrong could i have been.
Called for the first pair took aim and nearly hit the floor in pain
when i fired the first shot(28 gram skeet load)
Looks like no shooting for me for 6weeks to 3 months

I agree. One of the best parts of shooting is that it brings people of various backgrounds, skill levels and interests together. When I was on the West Point Skeet and Trap Team, we shot against some "fancy" sporting clubs in New York and New England. A lot of these guys had guns that cost more than my car and cars that cost more than my house. But we all shot together and enjoyed the camaraderie.
We also used to go up to Ilion, NY and shoot with the Remington team. Not sponsored shooter, mind you, but the people who worked in the factory and build all those Rmeingtons you enjoy shooting.
On the one hand you have people who are among the most wealthy 1% in the country. On the other hand you have blue-collar workers. But they all enjoy shooting, and would no doubt have found common ground if they had shot with each other. In America, shooting and hunting are for people of every socioeconomic class. Some of those Remington factory workers with their old 870s and 1100s could outshoot the country-clubbers with their Perazzis and Krieghoffs (and quite a few country-clubbers were fantastic shots as well).
To answer the original question, I love Sporting Clays. I would rather shoot clays than skeet or trap. Trap is like going to a driving range. Skeet is like Putt Putt. Sporting Clays is like 18 holes. The difficulty of the game means that even guys who shoot straight 25s and 50s on trap and skeet don't often top 80 of 100 in clays. Truly, the way shortgunning was meant to be done.

Absolutely right! Skeet is repeat-until-bored I often do a round or two to warm up before I get onto the sporting clays.
I shoot at this ground quite a lot - Horne Clay Pigeon Club check them names out, but to be fair, George Digweed shoots the same clays as me, even if he is one of the top shots in the world. Me, the best I've ever managed there is 81/100 ... so far!

I weighed in about a week ago and it seems that next week I will be taking my nephew and his girlfriend to Cherokee Rose for a round. I took him last time and now she shows interest.

Glad to hear it sohcgt2, we all need to get out and shoot when we can. The clubs are struggling now days with a lot lower turnouts than ever before.
A couple weeks ago I went to Ft Payne Al and shot 100 sporting and 25 FITASC then hauled butt over to Floyd Co Wildlife and shot another 100 sporting and 25 FITASC. Then on Sunday I rode out to Temple and shot another 100 sporting at Advanced Bullets.
I can't afford many weekends like that, But then again. This comming up weekend I am planning on shooting a NSCA registered shoot at Cherokee Rose on Saturday, and another registered shoot at Big Red Oak on Sunday.
Guess I'll have to do without supper a couple nights this week ....

I saw King George shoot at the Meadows National Gun Club in Macon Ga back in 06 at the Triple Classic World Series of Sporting Clays. He seems like a heck of a nice guy. And an unbeleivable shot. Him and Richard Faulds as well. I think Richard was the favorite comming into the third leg of the Triple Classic as he had already won the first shoot in Europe and the second in Russia. But a good ole boy from the south took HOA at the Meadows. Home court advantage and all that.

I was posting on here long before I got to the other sites. Since I tend to shoot more competitively, I've not posted around here much recently... although I do check in from time to time. FWIW, I shoot several thousand registered targets each year and many, many more in practice.
IMO, I like the THR format. THR was founded and is operated as a pro-gun site first and foremost. With that in mind, I think that splitting the shotgun forum into multiple sub-fora would detract from the primary mission of the board.
Shotgunworld is operated more as a hobbyist/enthusiast site and is much more fragmented and segregated. IMHO, they've gone WAY overboard with the number of sections.
Around here, when we're discussing clay target shooting, we'll get people reading the thread who might otherwise not be interested in that aspect of shotgunning. Maybe we get some converts that way. Likewise, maybe some guys who like to shoot sporting will get curious and try out a three-gun competition or consider taking a tactical course. That's just as good.
If we only talk amongst others who are just like us, then we end up only seeing what we're already comfortable with... and as anyone who values their 2nd Amendment rights, we need to pay close attention to the 'big picture'.
