I like the look and the feel of the P232 in .380.. I'm looking to purchase one (a .380), in the very near future. Do you recomend the .380 as an adequate bad guy stopper?? I intend it to be my ccw piece. Does the newer P232's have the quality that Sig has had for many years? I'm intersested in the stainless steel version w/ night sights (if I can find one). Please let me know which one you have and do you recomend one. Can you tell me what the diference is between the 230 and the 232. Thanks for your help.

Sig 232

I had one and really liked it.
I now have a stainless 230 with the same grips and can't seem to shoot it well.
Can't figure out whats different though.
P.S. Top Gun Supply has cpo's for $439.00 to $459.00
Seems like a great deal to me.

I have both. The 230 has a stainless frame. The 232 has an aluminum frame. All other features seem to be the same to me.

Of course the 230 weighs more. I like it better than the 232.

As to the .380, it is pretty much agreed that it is the MINIMUM caliber for self defense. Make your own determination if it is good enough for you.

As a side note: The 23x is fairly large gun for .380 cal. guns. My Kahr in .40 S&W is smaller in all dimensions except bore size.

Both the P230 and P232 come in stainless or alloy frame.

Can you tell me what the diference is between the 230 and the 232.
The differences are:
* The P232 has an added firing pin block making it slightly safer if dropped.
* The grip panels are different though interchangable. (see pic below)
* The slide serrations have chaged over the years. The 2009 model has the latest iteration. (see pic below)
* The P230 came in multiple calibers.
* The sights went from two dots to three dots.

Do you recomend the .380 as an adequate bad guy stopper??

Sure, it's a great gun, very concealable, very accurate, slim and reliable.

Please let me know which one you have and do you recomend one.

These. I really like this world class pistol. I prefer the much lighter alloy frame for carry and the heavier stainless at the range.

Here's my P230 for no particular reason. Alloy frame. Very accurate.

They are cool, but there are smaller guns with more power. The 230/232 is very graceful and should certainly perform well enough for defense. However, I prefer the magazine release in the "normal" place (not that you're realistically going to need to reload in a SD situation, but you never know). I consider my P230 a plinker/fun gun. I pocket carry a Ruger LCP.

Side note: I find that the 11 oz. LCP has less felt recoil than the heavier 230. My brother, however, shot them back to back and thought the opposite. The P230 is quite a bit more accurate, particularly at longer ranges. But up close the LCP is remarkably accurate for me.

I really like my little Sig,small enough to go anywhere. I also cast a 102 round nose boolit so shooting it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. You won't be disappointed in either of the different models.

Thanks to 1KPerDay you see the early slide serration, alot of cuts, then the next version as seen by my pic, the P230 second from the bottom, then to the seven cuts as seen on the other three and then the latest (not pictured), which are straight up vertical with no slant.

I have the P232 SS and understand (??) that the difference from the P230 is in the area of the ramp to allow JHP to feed better. Dunno for sure. As for being a good carry weapon, it can be.
Have you checked out the P239 in 9mm or 40 S&W? They are near the same size as the P232 but may be a bit on the heavy side. I swap between a P239 40 and a P239 9mm SAS depending on what I'm wearing.

I have the 2 tone P232, it has been my ccw for many years. It has been a great little pistol not one malfunction, ever, out to ten yards it is accurate enough. However the 100gr .380 has limitations, so I decided to turn it in (still have it) for a CZ PCR 9mm, a little bigger, a little heavier, a lot more firepower and capacity. I have always been a SIG shooter, I have 5, but the CZ fit a need and it does it very well. I love the SIG P232 but I can shoot a 9mm or .357SIG a lot better than the .380. By all means get the SIG, everyone should own one, or two, or...

TT,
The story I've been told is that it is a run of pistols made for a police agency that required both the safety and a lanyard loop. That particular P230 is a .32acp, made in 1997. I'm guessing that this is one of an unknown number held by Sig for these 12 years or so and now released for sale. The neat thing about the .32acp pistol is that it takes the same magazines that the .380acp uses... no difference, except that it holds 8 rounds instead of 7.

Very cool. Does the safety allow a cocked and locked condition?

No, it does not. The safety cannot be engaged with the hammer cocked. With the hammer down, (using the decocker) and the safety engaged the hammer, trigger and slide are all locked.

I had a couple of P232s some years ago and liked them very much. Had both alloy and stainless. Very accurate, easy to shoot pistols. Only drawback I ever noticed, aside from the somewhat marginal caliber, was I thought the butt was a bit large. Beautiful pistols though, IMO. Mine were sold because I decided that, for me, my compact handgun needs were best served overall by the SP101.

It's big for a .380, but it's utterly comfortable to shoot. I would not feel under-armed carrying one. In fact, I didn't for years. It's a good gun.

I have a SS P232. It is a classy pistol. There are a couple things I don't like. 1st is the lock time is way slow. 2nd is the SS version is a little on the heavy side. I wish I had the blued alloy version.

232

Bought a 232 blued with N.S. and love it! Carry it and feel very good about it as a S.D. weapon. Accurate and follow up shots easy, has Hogue rubber grips with finger groves and fits my avg size hand perfectly! Lighter than the s.s so weight is no problem. find nothing to complain about, after a short time, even like the mag release on the bottom of the grip.

230 Stainless and a 232 2 Tone. Both are EXCELLENT choices. I wanted a pistol for the night stand and have the ability to use it at the range.
If I had to choose it would be the 230 Stainless. Only because I like stainless. Both are equally reliable. The 2 tone is lighter in weight (for carry purpose)
Certain 232's have changeable rear sights. The blades are different heights and can be moved left or right.

Have you guys had any issues about obtaining .380 ammo. Wallyworld had plenty of 9mm / .40 sw. Not a lick of .380 ammo to be found...IMO if wallywolrd cant get it then you need to worry.
