I'm in the market for one of the new 9mm compacts. Zero need, just cuz. Right now it's the LC9 or Solo and Sig 290. Personally, I don't care for the SAO of the Kimber but it's just darn sweet looking. Nevertheless, it's out because of the action. I don't really like the looks of the Sig. The LC9 is leading my short list right now. I'm a big fan of Rugers and Smiths. I sniffed around a few forums to see if there are any Smith & Wesson rumors about them jumping into the sorta micro 9mm game. I havn't found a thing that even hints of it. I wouldn't mind waiting if they had any plans in the not to distant future. Has anybody heard anything?

Don't think there's anything new from S&W, but a Kahr PM9 is another choice, $700 at Cabela's and would probably top the quality of the others.

They also just announced the CM9 as well - almost the same gun as the PM9 with just a few cost cutting measures. If it's priced like the CW9 then it should come in under $400.

Rumor is, they should just give up. Wait that is not a rumor at all.

There was a rumor they were going to phase out the locks. Just a rumor though.

IIRC from reading the specs of each the LC9 is the same size as a Kahr p9/CW9. I'd take the kahrs over the ruger. Kahr is more proven, has a better trigger, doesn't come with the needless safety or loaded chamber indicator, and if the LCP is any indication the Kahr is likely the better made gun.

BTW Cabela's has horrible prices on guns. It shouldn't be hard to find a PM9 for under $600. Also the new CM9 will be out soon and should be more like $400.

The rumor from S&W is if you like the Body Guard series you sir are in luck! If you do not, there are 50 J-Frame revolvers you may choose from instead!

All kidding aside, the Kahr is from my limited experience a great little pistol. My father is in the process of breaking in his CW9 and was all smiles after seeing what it was capable of. At 63 and sporting tri-focals this was his first 7 rounds fired from brand new at 10 yds.

Only fired 70 rounds of the recommended 200 for break-in but 0 malfunctions with handloaded 115gr. Hornady XTPs with a tad over 4gr. of TiteGroup (I don't care to post actual recipe).

Very soft recoil, I had him shoot my M&P 9c back to back with the Kahr and he preferred the Kahr and indeed his groups at 15 yds. did as well.

I guess I should have figured the Kahrs would be mentioned here. Without making this a slamming post let's just say that past experience has ruled them out. I loved everything about the PM9 I had except.......it wouldn't work. My go to carry is a J frame and will remain that way. I just have the itch for a little 9mm. My 3913 is just a bit big and heavy for everyday concealed carry but I love it. My underlying hope was that S&W was thinking about something a little more compact in 9mm.

I own a cw9 only because it was a real good deal, 250 dolars used. And it works just fine. Nice pistol. I also own a KTpf-9 and after many rounds in the kahr I will contenue to carry my KT. I does everthing it's suppose to do for half the price and less weight than any of the others. They also have great CS if needed
Don't think buy'n a s&w makes it a better handgun. You have a chance of a good one or problem child with anything you buy to. If you want a little smith ,buy one.

S&W

I had the choice between this Smith or any of the Kahrs. I really like the Kahrs but when I had the two side by side this one easily won out.

7 shot, allow frame, DAO....

The only problem....hard to find.

Ha Hotspur I've got one of those sweet CRKTs kicking around somewhere too, they are great knives. Ever since a more typical liner lock closed on me once I'm way more comfortable with that additional lock the crickets have.

Well that's too bad the Kahrs don't work for you, have you tried one of the CZ 2075 RAMI's?

There was a post over on M&P forum hinting at a small 9mm. Supposedly, its name had already been trademarked as the "offduty" I think a lot of folks thought this would would have come out at shot, but alas nada. I guess we will wait and see. I asked a rep a year or so ago and he said they know a lot folks are asking for one.

I would imagine it will come to pass at some point, as S&W has always offered small 3" single stack type designs, heck even in .45!

I can't wait.

If you are planning to carry this pistol (and I'm not sure why you would want a small 9mm over a full-sized one if you aren't carrying it) I will cast in another vote for the Kel-Tec PF-9. Mine runs 100% reliably with all types of 9mm ammo that I have tried (although it did take a trip to KT to achieve said reliability) and you can't beat the Kel-Tec for the light weight and price.

Nice TSW Hotspur. I have an early 3913 that's like new and I love it. I'd like to fit a non-ambi safety on it but just havn't stumbled on to one yet. Thanks for all the replies folks. I just may take another look at the Kahrs. In spite of my bad experience with a PM9 it can happen with any of them. Their CS is really what turned me off. Keep in mind my OP. This is a "I want...don't need" thing. I also have a SR9 that I love (try a Ghost connector, they're great), a Kimber 10mm, several wheel guns and they've all been great and have a permanent home. I was hoping for S&W to jump in just to see another option. 90% of the fun in a "I want...don't need" purchase is the hunt. Oh yea, a CS9 is on the list as well.

The 3913 is as good as it got from S&W.

The CS9 was also very nice, IF it fit your hand.

As far as anything new and worthwhile from S&W - I doubt it.

If they do make anything you can rest assured it will be: 1) Plastic.

2) Have a lousy trigger.
3) Ugly.

4) Overpriced for what it is.

The CRKT is a great knife for the $$.

I do like Kahrs. It's just in a compact 9 the Smith won out.

I have a couple of CZ's but not the Rami. My P01 is incredible.

Spare me Fivet, no need for that.

The CZ's I fired were great but just didn't feel right for me.
