I'm in Jacksonville, and have a membership at the Hwy 31 range between Tyler and Chandler. I don't get there often enough, but generally perfer a weekday when I am off work.

31 West range

I'm in Tyler and have a membership at the 31 West Range as well. I practice out there and shoot Highpower Rifle, smallbore and Bullseye pistol, though I am likely to try anything.

Well Roadwild17, Welcome to E. Texas from a Northeast, or NLU, ULM or whatever they call it today. It's been a few years, and I have been working at ETMC in Jacksonville for the past 23 years. I still have a house in West Monroe, and was at the new Ouachita Parish range last week. I was one of the regulars at the old Selman Field range when the sheriffs dept took over supervision back in the mid 60's.

Jkingrph: I shot the night shot of the front of the hospital that is currently being used on billboards around the area. I'm in and out of that hospital a lot.

Certainly was sorry when Discount City lost their FFL. The clerk up there told me the AFT paperwork and compliance had gotten to be too much trouble.

Wulf in Athens

I was impressed with all their....stuff. Bought a rechargeable lantern battery for deercams while I was there. They had a lot of guns but prices were higher than I like. I usually check Glock 19s to get a feel for what folks have their prices set on. Glocks run around 480 at Gun shows. If Glocks are 580 then their prices are high. Gander Mountain here in Tyler is about the same.

Always nice to see a new FFL.

Blackfork: I too was dissapointed when Discount CIty lost their license. I probably bought more there than from any other place, in fact got a nice Ruger #1 in their final close out.

One of our anesthetist's (sp) sons worked there and that was the story I got as to reason, sloppy paperwork and some missing firearms. Sporting goods went downhill after Ted left.

Good picture of the hospital, stop by the pharmacy sometime, the name is Jeff.

Seeker Two: Made a trip to Athens just to visit Wufs. They have some nice stuff but a bit pricey. I like Simmons in Bastrop, La much better. I know it's about 230 miles but I still have my parents house in W. Monroe, La., so am over there fairly often.

I'm over here in Mabank. hard to find a place to shoot around here. Might be interested in trying to get together with you guys.

Well, I got a place to stay in Tyler. Maby once I get a pay check, we could do a get together. Anyone know where would be the best place say within a 2 hour drive?

Roadwild17 Try the Highway 31 range between Tyler and Chandler. It's members only so you have to have an annual membership. The only other thing I know of is the Indoor range. Going out to the Hwy 31 place is kind of iffy during the week as members have their own key and owner is not always there. You might check with a knife and gun shop callet the Shootist, just off south Broadway, they used to sell memberships for Hwy 31.

OK, Im in my place in Tyler, and finally got some Internet, (after a week of waiting :cuss:) Anyway, anyone interested in having an East Texas Shoot sometime in a month or so?

jkingrph, the indoor range, is it on the loop?

Also, if anyone has an AK front sight tool, I would greatly appreciate a few minutes with it.

Tyler Ranges

31 West is the best. You can join at the Shootist on South Broadway. Nice to go into Lock and Load but they can be expensive to shoot in. There are action pistol matches run monthly at 31 West.
I'm shooting tomorrow at Longview. Action Pistol. They are shooting smallbore prone in the morning.

Lock and Load is on SW loop 323, next to Sweet Sue's Resturant. About the only time I use it is to renew my ccl.

With my work schedule I can usually hit 31 West during the week and have the range to myself. I just renewed there, annual family dues are $150, so you could compare to one visit to Lock & Load and see which works out best for you.

At one time Lock & Load allowed high power rifles, saying that the backstop material would handle anything up to a certain velocity level, I do not remember what, then they found bullet holes out the back wall going into a back service alley, so I think they stopped that, but you might check before carrying rifles in.

Saturday or Sunday fine by me. Tyler has a nice gun show at Harvey Hall this weekend.
Anyone interested in this Saturday or Sunday at 31 West OR at the Gun show?

Blackfork- I think I have seen you out there before. IIRC you were shooting some kind of homemade AR with rounds you had picked up at one of the last gun shows. Not too many college students out there on that range.

I shoot at 31 West fairly often (was there on Monday actually) and was planning on going after I visited the gun show on Sunday. But work calls me to Houston this weekend and the wife wants to tag along and spend some time in Galvestion so I don't think I will be back in time for either one.

Last Sunday the pistol range was under water and the road to the 500 meter range was still flooded as of Monday. The 200-25 meter area was fine though.

Lock and Load does not allow rifles larger than .22RF anymore. You can still shoot those but it is pricey in any case and 31W is cheaper even if you are a guest ($10 all day).

If anyone wants to get together and shoot drop me a line, but it will have to be soon. My tour in East Texas is almost at an end and I find myself bound for other less pleasant enviorns.

Titan6

I could see parts of the 31 range being under water. I did not know he had a 500 meter range, I was thinking the small backstop angled off to the left was something like 200-250 yards. It's been a while since I have seen Bob, I used to work with him at Nan Travis in Jacksonville, but that's been a while.

I don't know if I'll make the gun show, seems as though I buy something almost everytime I go. Found a nice Savage 99 at the "Gun show to end all gun shows" at the Oil Place last January. I like the gun, but the show was a laugh.

If the humidity does not go down a bit I probably will pass on shooting this weekend, all I would be doing is fighting sweat in my eyes. Most of my shooting will probably go on hold unless I get up and go very early some morning.

Hope that all that make it have a good time.

JEFF

The angle range is a 200 range.

The 500 range is located behind the Weatern berms past the chained off areas. Not everyone knows about it. If you go encourage bringing an ATV to ride back and forth to the target unless you need the exercise.

I was at the Oil Palace show also and that was a big waste of time. Did make some interesting friends as their table was next to ours. The Harvey Palace High Caliber shows are normally pretty good. This one sold out to vendors a while back.

Just talked to the wife. She says she does not want to Galveston this weekend after all. So I will run down to Houston and back again on Saturday. I am not really shopping for guns but really need to restock some ammo. Of course if there is a deal out there to good to pass up....
