Today on Shooting Gallery, I saw something that i never though I would see.......a tactical levergun......it was a Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70 with a XS Lever Rail Sights ghost ring with some sort of tactical forend that that has a light mount......I'll try and dig up some pics of it in a little bit.

Is it just me, or does the ghost ring and tactical forend seem intriguing in a weird sort of way. :uhoh:

Oh....and it had a 1892 Mare's Leg Take down which is a lever action handgun since it doesnt have a full stock

I just wathced it again and the forend was a prototype from XS sights

Yeah I DVRed it and watched it last night. At first I thought, c'mon be serious. Then I got to thinking about it and it makes sense in a lot of ways. I think the .45-70 was just being used a prototype to make sure the rail system could stand up to some heavy recoil.

I really liked the gun that the guy "Tupelo" was showing. The short-throw cowboy gun. I didn't catch what kind it was. Did anyone else?

I was watching the Ted Nugent show and he did a review of the mare's leg on his Uncle Ted's Favorite Guns. It really wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn and Ted was trying not to laugh and make fun it, since they were likely a sponsor.

I have an XS lever rail (with ghost ring rear sight) on both of my .45-70 Marlins. The purpose of the rail is that it allows you to mount a scope far enough forward which is hard to do with a standard base. Most of the photos that I've seen of Guide Guns and the like have the scope pushed all the way up against the front ring and they're still not far enough forward for proper eye relief. I bet many folks have been bashed on the nose, or worse yet, the eye socket, during recoil. So they end up moving their head back in an unnatural shooting position. Here's a photo of my XLR with the XS lever rail. The eye relief is perfect for me and even on 5x there's no chance of a broken nose or worse. The Warne QR rings makes it easy to remove the scope in the field and one screw is all that's required to reattach the rear ghost ring sight. As for standing up to heavy recoil, the rail only weighs 75 grams and is mounted to the rifle with four screws ... three on the receiver and one on the barrel where the factory rear sight would be. All in all a great system that I'd highly recommend.
