A little pawn shop near my house is selling 1lb tannerite exploding targets now. We got three and shot two of them off at ten dollars apiece.. Pricey. Well, I say "we" but in the end I had to shoot both of them because nobody else could hit them. A few days later on thanksgiving, my cousin shot 20 pounds of the stuff, very impressive. Heres the video:

Have any of you ever tried it? Blown anything up with it? Made your own?

I usually buy mine at knob creek machine gun shoot. I got bored with just shooting it, so now I use it to blow tree stumps out of the ground. I usually use 10-13lbs at a time. Works great. The neighbors dog hates it.

Those of you who use it, how much do you pay for a pound? Online the brand I bought was listed at half of what I paid, but it did come from a pawn shop. I speculate it would be cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks for caring, but it's all legal so long as it's not transported. Then it's a car bomb and someone goes to jail.

i've used a couple cases. it's fun.

however, i much prefer to fill balloons with it (without blowing them up) so they're about 2-3" diameter and shoot at that. it's more challenging, makes almost as much noise, and i get about 7 per 1lb bottle.

The stuff is made just 15 miles away from me.
I've gone through cases of tannerite.
A couple shooter friends of mine are delivery drivers out of Eugene and deliver to Dan Tanner regularly.
Tanner came out with a new one that goes off with a .22.
No to be confused with those card board poppers, these are loud.
One driver bought a 40 gallon drum of tannerite and we all had loads of fun.
It is great for destroying things, printers, micro-waves, stuffed inside piles of wood.
One good one was when I set an old toilet on its side and put a pound into the bottom of the bowl. There was nothing left larger than 3/4 minus gravel and a large smoke ring went out 50 yards.

Nice video, nice family, great that you can do that stuff together, wish there were more places that allowed a bit more freedom to it's citizens.

I'd be interested in tannerite that went off with a .22 bullet. Since it turns out I'm the only one who can hit anything (kidding) I don't get to really experience the explosion. I get to experience a .270 instead. Shooting it with a .22 would be more fun.
Your compliments are highly appreciated, gym.
Also! I forgot to note that the house on the left in the first part of the video is totally vacant. The inhabitants were all with us, watching.

Will a 17 HMR set off Tannerite? I think it travels around 2600 fps.

I bought a case of Tannerite a couple of years ago. A .223 or a 30-30 wouldn't set it off but a .308 would. Maybe the new stuff is more sensitive.

.223 has always worked on the Tannerite targets I've had. I don't know if it'll work with Tannerite, but with Star exploding targets we'd put a dry 5 lb. sack of flour on top of the target. Makes a flash-fire the size of a van.
We'd fill a Gatorade bottle (about 1-1/2 lbs) to get more thump. Fun stuff.

October, 2011, Tannerite vs Mercury Sable. We buy in bulk. We also launch bowling balls out of sight. Baggies wrapped with duct tape work for us.
[second pic is the front of the car, it blew the motor apart]

a buddy of mine shoots the stuff. he keeps telling me to come visit him and he will buy 20lbs worth just for the weekend. i havent been able to make it though.

the first time he shot the stuff off, he actually called the police to tell them about it to give them warning.

this past weekend, either he didnt call or the dispatcher didnt relay the message cause he had the local sheriffs show up. he explained and had a talk with them, and they kindly left.

Filled a 5 gallon bucket with tannerite one time, put it out 200 yards before shooting. Very impressive! :D
