Anybody give their kid a gun name?

Hope I don't offend anyone,
But to me, giving a newborn a gun name unless it is already a fairly common name like Barrett or such, is kind of like seeing those mothers dragging their 5 year old kids to beauty pageants...projecting parental dreams and ambitions on their often unwilling or unknowing children. You might love guns but peoples children often turn out to be vastly different than their parents. I'm a gun fan, but thank god my parents didn't name me after a gun company. TO ME, that's more appropriate for a beloved canine companion.

I am a fan of the tradition of naming children after relatives in your life who have contributed positively towards your upbringing. I do like the suggestion of naming your child after a prominent inventor or designer of firearms
Raise them right and your children should be gun friendly, but don't shoehorn them into something they might or might not want anything to do with in the future depending on how they form their own opinions. Your love of firearms could very well turn out to be your child's hated millstone-of-a-name because of connotations tied with it, depending on what your child eventually wants to do with their life.

Just My Opinion

How about Uzi (Hebrew name meaning My Power)?

Seriously, I would never curse a child with an "unusual" or unique name in this digital age where privacy is virtually non-existent.

Apparently I'm odd.

We named our first son Remington. It means town of the raven if that makes any difference. We've had more compliments than odd stares. Most people who hear it for the first time (even strangers) say its handsome, powerful, or just fits him very well. He loves the name because it's not one of 3 kids in his class with the same name. He usually goes by Rem, or Remy, especially when he was learning to write, and trying to put his name on his school work.

We joked about naming our daughter Winchester (Winny for short), but went with Shealeen.

We named our other son Sterling, not specifically for the SMG. He's gotten a ton of compliments for it, and he's not even 48 hours old yet.

No one will care if you name your child after a gun. In fact, I would bet you get more compliments than you would ever imagine. Most gun brands are/were someone's last name, and last names don't make bad first names. Harrison, Quinn, Cooper, Campbell, Carter, Connor, Reed, there are plenty out there.

Beatledog, that's a great Bible verse on your sig line..Thanks-thats about the only way I'm getting any scripture these days..

Hanzo - "Is Ezekiel a proper common name where you live?"

Yes it is quite proper, but not very common nowadays. It fits him perfectly also.
We were gonna name our boy Ezekial and call him Zeke..had a girl and named her London....

By the way OP, how about naming them after the city where your gun is made...?

It isn't like a kid has to like shooting just because his name is shotgun...geez.

Op, you probably won't be shooting much in the future anyway-these kids are expensive :)

You could go with "Otto", and no one would be the wiser unless the middle name of "Melara" were added to it.

In all seriousness, any firearm name I can think of is better than the names I see in the news.

Just please please PLEASE don't name your kid "rimfire." They'll never make it through middle school.

It tried to get my wife to agree on Johnathon, Samuel, or Colton but she didn't like them. I never told her why I wanted to use those names if we had a boy. She would have thought I was crazy:rolleyes:

If we have a girl, I'm going to throw out Tennifer and see if my wife bites. Her name is Jennifer, so I'm thinking it won't fly.

Just name the boy John Marlin, and your last name. That doesn't seem very far out there. Most people won't even pick up on it, and it will throw back to the greatest lever actions ever made. (Sorry Winchester fans.)
