Does anybody else name their guns?

OTOH, my family bought me a new grill for Memorial day, and we decided to name it "Bob."
You MIGHT be a redneck if...

NO I don't name my guns, that'd be silly, now if you'll excuse me, I have to put Billy back together.

(I actually do have names for a couple of my guns, trucks, and tractors. Some of them include Gutless, Silvy, Whatthehell and Dammit)

AR-15 = Gugnir, Spear of Odin
Ah, so I'm not the only one using Norse names! My P225 is Sigrún ("Victory Rune"), the P7 is Woglinde (a Valkyrie, from Wagner), and the Kimber is Gunnvör ("Battle Oath").

I still need to come up with a name for the P245 before I take it to church for the babtism ;)

My brother named his .45 Cassandra. No, I don't know why.

Geekwitha.45, I'm stealing Brunhilde. Going to carve that into my K31.

I introduced a girl to shooting, and helped her make her first purchase. It was an SKS Paratrooper. She decorated it with stickers and paint on the stock, and carved the name of whichever teletubby is gay into it. It gets a whole lot of laughs at the range... until they see her shoot.

I call them all "Betty". So if for whatever reason something needs to be said in public nobody has a clue.

Example: Climb out of the truck at the supermarket and my wife might say, "Betty is making copies". Translation: your gun is printing.

Then I adjust my shirt or pants leg etc.

I think naming guns is silly but a couple of mine have aquired names nonetheless. The first one that got a name was my custom Colt Gov't. Model. I was cleaning it after having put about 700 rounds through it in a three day training class and the name "Lucille" somehow occurred to me. The name seemed to fit and I've referred to her as Lucille ever since.

Last summer, I purchased a Kimber 25th Anniversary Custom but was unable to get to the range to shoot it for about two months due to the four hurricanes that hit Florida during that time period. That one was named "Stormbringer." I liked it so much I bought a second one, but I haven't named that one yet.

I've only named my Glock Model 36, I call it "Easy-E" because the serial number starts with the letters EZE. The fact that it's easy to shoot helps, too. ;)

A couple of years ago an old guy was selling off a 13 gun collection that I heard about. I bought 12 of them. One was a Ruger Single Six convertible. He wanted $150 for it, and it looked brand new until I turned it over. One side is totally discolored. He said it was a new gun that he stuck under his pickup seat in a soft case. A deer had jumped out in front of him while he returned from shopping. A jar of pickles had broken when he slammed on his brakes. He didn't think to check the gun out until a couple of days later. I gave him a hundred for it. Later, a buddy asked me if I had went shooting over the weekend. I told him I had popped off a couple of hundred rounds off my deck with my "pickle gun"! He looked at me like I was nuts. It's the only firearm I've ever named, and I have a pretty good size collection. I've become attached to my "pickel gun"!! :)

I am going to be picking up a 1911 para soon, I have yet to decide on its name... I am thinking Phobos fits it nicely :D

Ever since Counter-Strike, I've seen people refer to Desert Eagles as "Deagles".

So, my Eagle's name is Deagol. Whatever primary I eventually get, I'm naming it Smeagol. ;)

Yup, I do.

Only couple though.

My AK is "Romanian rose", it's got a rose wood burned into the butt stock.

and my mossberg 12GA that rides around in my car is refered to as "The sword of instantanious justice".

I'll get to the rest of them later.

Dont name any of them, they come with names... Though I do refer to them individually as "her" sometimes. "What to give HER a try?" :D

Back in my army days, my sniper rifle was named "Helinä". (A beatiful elf in a tv-serie for small children)

i'm really sorry ,but for me, naming anything not alive doesnt do much. My other annoyance is gun owners who make cute names out of the original makers name, ie; Bulgie Mak. *** is a bulgie mak and who in gods name would admit to calling it a bulgie mak?? Same for those who call it a "Springer". For gods sake, its a SA or a Springfield.... again, I'm sorry for ranting... :cuss: :banghead: :barf: :barf: :fire:

when i was in the army my drill told us this M16 is your new girlfriend. she will be your best lover. she will save your miserable a$$es in action. you better not let her leave your side EVER! heck even dan'l boone named his Kentucky rifle betsy, as someone already mentioned. even so, i named most of mine boys names.

my buddy named his nickle plated .45 sarah jane. i even have a giant screwdriver i named Big Jake (not sure why). "we'll get that damned screw out. hand me Big Jake." i AM NOT crazy, all my tools are my friends.

Sure. Had a dog named "Dog" and a cat named "Cat." So my firearms have names: Kimber Gold Match 1911, Springfield Loaded 1911 (stainless), Bushmaster AR-15, etc. Guess I'm just romantic about things.

My 400 year old katana is named katana. My Paul Chen katana is named "new Chinese smith katana."

My Ken Onion knife is named "Ken Onion knife."

I've got a screw driver named "screw driver." A toaster named "toaster."

Everything around me has a name.
