I went to my first gun show last week and saw a fellow THR Member there. We have talked on the side and was great seeing him in person.:)
He had a great scope that I want to use on my .270. It was only $95 and would have to change scope mounts, but wondering if anybody has experience with Leapers' Scopes:confused:
Below is some info about the particular scope I'm looking at. I would have bought it then, but at this gun show, nobody took the card:cuss: :banghead:
Any responses would be appreciated:)
30mm SWAT 4-16X56 Full Size A.O. Range Estimating Mil-Dot Illuminated Scope
(SCP3-416AOMDL-A)
30mm Tube for Maximum Light Transmission and Wider Windage/Elevation Adjustment.

Side Wheel Parallax Adjustment - New, convenient and user friendly feature, allowing for easy and precise objective adjustment - FROM 10 YARDS TO INFINITY.

Red/Green Variable Intensity Dual Illumination Reticle.

Target Turrets with Larger and Consistent Windage/Elevation Adjustment Range.

Most value for a 30mm tube scope. Crystal clear 56mm objective lets you see more of your target, provides great light transmission for dusk-to-dawn use and delivers ultra-high resolution and performance.

Complete with sun shade and flip-open lens caps.

SWAT BIG WHEEL - A great tool to get finer parallax adjustment!
80mm: SCP-SW080
100mm: SCP-SW100

The place I work uses this brand on our products. The ones we
get are cheap Chinese crap. :scrutiny: This smiley sort of mimics
the optical distortion. Your model may vary, but I think you would be
better served to scout for a used Weaver/Redfield/Whatever. They
are probably made in China too, but at least they have a brand name
to look after, at least minimally.

I bought a used gun off a guy that had a Leapers on it.

Pure and utter garbage in each and every aspect. I do not dare even dignify it by referring to it as an optic.

It was taken off immediately and was tossed into my niece and nephew's toy box (have to program them young you know :D )

stay away from leapers scopes

I put a leapers 6.5x20x56 on my remington pss .308 and it just would not hold a zero....... total junk....don't waste your money.

I've used various inexpensive scopes (mostly Tasco) for many years, with good luck. Never could justify spending as much for scope as I did for the gun. And, while they admittedly aren't as good as more expensive scopes, they work 99% as well for me.

HOWEVER, I bought a gun with a Leapers(3-9x) on it, and it (the scope) was the biggest POS ever. Wouldn't hold zero, and variable "ring" got harder and harder to turn as I used it. Threw it away, and bought a different inexpensive scope at the next gunshow.

If you want an inexpensive Mil Dot look into a BSA. I've had one on my .30-06 for 3 years now and it holds zero year after year. NO problems out of it. I think I paid about 90 plus shipping from natchez for it.

Bought some for resale. Bought 6 or eight, only TWO had reticles that were perpendicular to the scope. Since the scope had an integral mount, I was screwed. Ended up sending them directly back to LEPERS and they gave me a refund (including my shipping costs). Generally junk and you get less than you pay for.

I bought a Leapers 4x30 for my AR; it was that Colt scope knockoff with an internal BDC for .223 with a weaver-style screw-on mount.

It wouldn't hold a zero, and I'm fairly sure it was because it had a special mount which screwed onto the scope (and had weaver clamps on the other side) which simply wouldn't stay tight to the scope. Tried locktite on the (single) screw holding it in place and haven't really used it much since (but haven't had a problem, either). I don't know if it still has zeroing problems, but the few times I have used it, I took it (and the 'integral' mount) off the rifle between range trips, and both times it was still zeroed.

I wouldn't buy a Leapers scope other than the under-$100 variety for a lower recoil rifle, personally. They're not made well enough from all I can tell to withstand stronger recoil.

It's the cyndrilical one abotu 1/3 down the page here: http://www.crankyfarmer.com/compactscope.html The one above it looks like its probably of significantly better quality.

My only experience is with one I have on a Beeman R-7 air rifle. Works fine on this, but would never consider putting that brand scope on a center fire. I've had great experience with Leopold, Weaver, and Sightron, however.
