It's a shame they won't make one like this:

It'd probably weigh pretty close to the seven inch guns, and it would be less muzzle heavy.

YES! That's it! Nice photoshop.

I agree! That is nice looking gun. I think the 5" Rugers are a special run and built to the specs of the distributor (Talo), not Ruger. Hopefully Ruger will see the interest in a 5" gun and come out with a more traditional looking version.

Alaskan with 4" barrel and frame?

Alaskan 3 1/2" barrel may be better. I think it looks about right.

Here is the gun with 2 1/2" barrel for comparison:

I saw that on their website when I saw they no longer are cataloging the 7.5" 454.

My wish for a Ruger large frame revolver is for them to use the mainspring strut/action of the SRH with the frame and barrel of the Redhawk. If they really want to use the extended frame and scope mounting of the SRH (which is actually a really good idea) at least put a top rib on the barrel to fill in the space between the frame and the front sight. That round barrel sticking out of that over sized frame is really unsightly. I think they've probably lost more than a few sales because a lot of people can't get over the looks of the piece. It's a strong and accurate revolver but it's butt ugly.

I'd love to see them put a 45 caliber 7.5" ribbed barrel on a SRH Alaskan frame. Those scalloped cuts need to go if you don't intend to scope it. If they chambered it in 45 Colt only with a fluted cylinder I'd be the first in line to buy one. (I want a 454 SRH but only intend to shoot 45 Colt in it. The long discontinued 7.5" 45 Colt Redhawk would suit me even better. Good luck finding one those ) It would be a damn fine looking and hell for stout revolver.
