A widebody Springfield 1911 is on the cover of guns and ammo this month. Anybody know the details? I could not find it on their web site. Which mags will it be compatible with, and what will the ballpark street price be? Any dealers out there with the scoop?

Para mags are supposed to be compatible..SV mags I am told will work too but some modification to the notch in the mag or the mag catch is needed to make that happen..

looks like $550 to $650 is the price for the full size mil spec version..

I think they feel weird compared to Paras. Para mags lock in fine, or at least my P14 mags lock into the SA widebody at the range I frequent. The gun is NIB, so I couldnt fire it to see how well the Para mags function in it. I dont know if Para grips fit. The price on the parked mil-spec version I handled is $550.

Ha! I was coming on here to see if anyone had written anything about it. A bit after the fact though...bought one yesterday! $530.00 will get you into one around here. The salesman was going on about it being a "loaded" lower. I did get the coupon that comes with "loaded" Springfields, which lets you buy extras at a pretty good discount. So I don't know what to say about that conclusively. I like the fact that you can get Para mags to fit. I had a bit of a problem buying the Kimber because of the non-compatability of the mags and people have said they have had a hard time getting them. BTW, here is the link on Springfields site. I couldn't find it without Googling it -http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-hc.shtml

My thoughts after having it for a day - First let me mention the fact that my first 1911 was/is a Kimber Custom Shop CDP. With that said, I do like the gun.

Cons
-It is a bit rougher obviously.
-Machine marks on the bottom of the slide's rails.
-The trigger has a pretty good amount of creep in the trigger. I don't have a scale to measure with though.
-The thumb safety has already dented/rubbed the finish where it comes down just above the grip (on the left side).

Pros
-Its parkerized!
-Other than the safety, fit is good. The slide mates nicely to the lower.
-How can you beat a high-cap .45?
-Non-particular mags!

The unique thing about the Kimber/BP wide body 45 is that their peak width in the grip is the same as most standard 1911 guns! Its just the width is pretty constant all the way around instead of rounding narrower towards the back and front like a single stack. Feels much better in my hand than does Para or Springfield widebody guns.

Para mags seem to come with crappy springs so figure replacements from Wolff into your initial mag cost.

I've Para P14, P13 and P10 along with the Springfield P12 clone vs the Kimber BP Pro II (4") and BP Ultra Ten II (3.5"). The Kimber guns just plain shoot better. But magazines have been a problem for all of them.

I just thought about them as a cheap USPSA limited 10 or limited gun. I may wait and see if they come out with a loaded version. It'd be nice to have the full 10 rounds reliably for limited 10 and have the option of bumping up to limited at any time.

I just checked out the website and pic above and it is kind of a loaded lower. It looks like it has the loaded features but it stil has the GI sites.

i used to have a SA ultra compact double stack gun. the mags were identical to para p12 mags. saddlebum

Dealer said it too.

That is exactly how it was marketed to me. FWIW.

$539.95 at our shop but $540.00 cash and a nudge will take one home.
Feels very good in my hand, but why they didn't use dovetails for the sights is beyond my comprehension level.
Two Para Ordinance magazines seemed to fit in function in the pistol I played with.
