Anybody know good shops around Columbus OH?

Vance's Shooters Supply is where I usually go. Its in a rough part of town, but the cool thing is that its in a township and is exempt from the whole columbus firearms permit thing (where they make you go downtown and get raped buying a 20 dollar permit to be allowed to make the purchase). They also have a nice selection and generally prices are fair.

Thats about the only place in columbus I know of. There are some other shops in the surrounding area (lancaster, powell, new albany, and hilliard).

The place in Hilliard is called Gun World. Its a neat little shop, real nice selection of used stuff, military stuff, and a fair amount of new guns also(at least for the size of the store). Its owned and run by one guy. Real nice to deal with. Unfortunately, being such a small operation he can't be very competitive on pricing. I'd really like to support the guy more, but for the price difference it usually has to be something I can't find somewhere else.

two places in new albany, depending on how you like it...

new albany shooting range: excellent indoor range, plenty of eye-candy. deal in a lot of pricy 1911s, DSAs, ar15s, etc.

champion's: primarily a mail order/internet supplier for NRA high power and olympic competition. most of the firearms will be the anschutz variety, but they have a nice store with plenty of reloading supplies and lots of stuff like range carts, shooting stools, jackets etc for competitions.

up until 2 years ago, i lived across the road from champions. put a lot of rounds downrange at nasr. both were excellent places.

that's on the extreme NE suburb. if you're going tobe on the NW side of town, check out the powder room.

IIRC, Vance's and Buckeye Outdoors are now (have been for a few years now) associated with each other. Very good stores, IMO. Relatively large in-stock selection. Also worth mentioning is Fin Feather Fur Outfitters in Ashland (about 45 min north of Col). Also a large selection.

If you would like to handle some very high end rimfire target rifles (i.e., Anschütz), check out Champion Shooters Supply in New Albany. They are even slightly cheaper than Champions Choice in TN for most things. Small facility, store front is part of a house, but almost every type of target .22 lr you can imagine and most types of Anschütz rifles and pistol on display for touching and shouldering. (It's where I go for serious stuff.)
