I've read a bit about the tight patterns with this stuff. Just wondering if anyone here had tinkered with the Hevi-Shot. As expensive as the stuff is ($2 a shell), it would pay to compare notes.

Yesterday, for my turkey gun, I bought an H.S. Strut Hevi-Shot Choke (.675) and some #5, 3" Hevi-Shot turkey loads.

Also bought some new Tru-Glo Pro-Series fiber optic sights. These are all-metal and have adjustable windage and elevation. Hopefully, the adjustment capability will allow me to easily put the tightest part of my pattern on target.

Plan to take it out to the range soon and pattern at 40 yards, but I was wondering if anyone else had already tried this stuff.

I use HS for ducks and geese, and have found that a imp. cyl. or a lt. mod. choke work best for me. By the way I load RSI's #22 load and haven't had any problems dropping lesser canadas or ducks.

Hevi Shot works well for me. My Mossberg 835 "Ulti-Mag" will go 60 yds. on a Federal Ammunition turkey target. I shoot 3.5" #5 shot. They are the high-velocity version, around 1300 fps. The choke is the turkey choke that came with the gun. This gun, with this load, will reach 20 yds. further then anything I tried in my 3" 870 Express Turkey gun and I tried at least 8-10 different loads in it. This is even after I purchased a high dollar Briley Turkey choke tube for the 870.

I killed 2 birds this year. The last at 50 paces and he barely kicked after being hit. Most of the birds I've killed have been under 30 yds., but this one wasn't coming in any closer. I bought this gun for just such an occasion.

Stay Safe, Pat S
