1. Yes. There were drills that we did both in the military and as a contractor where we fired pistol and carbine weak hand. 2. Story time- I took multiple wounds once when I was just not having a good day. I had a RPG detonate 3" from me that gave me a concussion, frags to my right arm and shoulder, left eye, neck, and face, a dislocated jaw, broken nose, and 5 teeth knocked out. Seconds later, I was hit in the right forearm by a bullet. After I was dragged to cover and had some 1st aid applied and I got my wits back somewhat, I thought I would get back into the fight since it was still going on. I picked up a M4 and went to fire it from my left (weak) side, since I had a 1 1/2" gaping hole in my right forearm, and it just wasn't working. The only problem was, I couldn't sight with my left eye due to the debris in it and the fact that the blast injuries had closed it like I had got punched by Rocky. My Oakley glasses had come apart in the RPG blast. So, I wasn't able to further contribute to the gunfight. However, if I had not gotten the eye injury, I would have been able to continue to fight, firing the M4 from my weak side. So it is definitely a drill worth doing occasionally.
