Just ordered a carton of 500 rounds of Herter's .380 brass cased, berdan primed ammo, made in Indonesia, from Cabelas.

It's $150, +15 shipping, -$20 sale = $14.50/box of 50 delivered. About the cheapest .380 out there. I would have preferred to try one box first, but they only sell it in 500 round lots or more. I've had Indonesian 7.62x51 (.308) before, and it was fine.

Anybody here tried the .380?

OK, or did I just waste $145?

Can the moderator who moved this please explain why this thread was moved, but the thread on Sportsman Guide 9mm Pakistani ammo with 30 comments in the same place (General Discussion) was not?

How about being consistent?

I agree. What is the criteria? Just trying to understand the logistics of where and when to post.

No thanks. It says steel case right on the box.

I would like to know if anyone has used this also.
There is both a steel case one made in Russia, and if you go further down the ammo page, a brass case one, from Indonesia.
The brass one is less expensive.

I looked further down the page and your right, it does say brass case.

OK, we all now agree it's brass, and it's not Russian.

BUT..... has anybody tried it? Please, I need a range report.

Looks like no one has tried it. So you get to be the guinea pig. Get some and give us a range report.

I wish I could. I ordered the ammo in advance of my receiving my purchase order for a Ruger LCP. Bought it, now have to wait, they tell me it could be 6-8 weeks for a county judge to sign the amendment.

As a former LEO, I now feel your pain.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

With the $20 off cupon the price was just too good to pass up so I went ahead and ordered 500 rounds of the brass cased 380.

I should have it sometime next week and will test it in the P-3AT and DE Micro.

The only hiccup I have had in my Bersa .380 was with Herters. I don't like it, it feels and looks cheap. It shoots rather dirty also, just my opinion.

Yes but was it the steel cased ammo or the brass? They come from two different manufacturers.

Steel or brass, and did it go "bang" every time? I'm only interested in it for practice ammo, and just need it to go bang.

Just a note not related to Herters. Cabelas is now selling MFC brand .380 also. It's $16/50 and it's brass. They had a big pile of it last time I was there. It is made in Hungary, it's brass, and the boxes are labeled "9mm Browning" which might confuse the newcomer who doesn't know that it's the same as .380 ACP or .380 Auto. Maybe that's why they had so much in stock. :D

I picked up a box of their .380 and some of their .45 ACP. I shot the .45 and it ran just fine but I haven't tried the .380 yet. I'd still buy other brands that I regularly use instead but in a pinch, it should do the trick...and saving a few bucks can't hurt either.

I believe its MFS brand, I had a batch of it in 9x18 and it shot fine.

Not quite. Labeled "9mm Browning Short".

Same difference. There's another 1/2 dozen names for it too. Point is...a lot of people don't know what most of those names are but they know what .380 ACP or .380 Auto are.

Ok thanks and that makes a difference since the 380 Herter's in brass or steel are from two different manufacturers there should be a difference between the two. The steel ammo comes from Russia and the brass comes from Indonesia.

Just curious, is it Berdan or Boxer primed?

When you look in the empty case at the bottom, is there one hole or two?

It's boxer. I don't reload .380 at the moment because I don't shoot as much of it as the other stuff that I do reload...but I like saving my brass in case I want to reload it at some other point so I always opt for the boxer.
