I guess this belongs in blackpowder.

Can't find any mention people having tried this bullet. Seems like it would work nicely.

265 gr Hornady 44 caliber (0.430" diameter) FTX bullet intended for the 44 Marlin. Is indicated by Hornady for velocities of 1800-3000 fps. Should be able to get it up to 2300 fps. Has a better ballistic coefficient than the 300 gr 45 cal XTP.

Yeah, I get lots of mixed reviews for the FTX. Looks to me like they took an XTP and glued a rubber tip on it.

The 44 caliber 300 gr XTP looks promising. Has good SD and a better BC than the 45 caliber bullets that seem to be popular. Hornady says it's good up to 1900 FPS. Can in theory exceed that, but...

I would not worry about B/C with a blackpowder rifle. They are pretty much a short range tool. The 265 gr.FTX is made for the .444 marlin at higher velocity than a muzzeloader's.The FTX's made for the .44 magnum would be a better choice for that application,I think.I have used the XTP's with excellent results on paper, and on hair out to 125 yards.I also am quite happy with the T/C Shockwaves on both.Try a couple of pistol bullets, and use what shoots best in your rifle.

10ML is good for 2300 FPS. Interetingly enough, the 300 gr 44 cal bullet seems to have a higher BC than any of the larger FTX bullets. SD wins out. The tip thingie is looking more and more like a marketing gimmick.

After a little digging, the answer to the why not the 300 gr 44 cal. XTP is probably accuracy. Thicker Sabots are problematic. Thinner is better.
