Anybody use a "Dunk kit" for cleaning?

I see Cylinder & Slide has a Dunk Kit for cleaning firearms.

Has anybody used this or any other cleaner with great success for submerging pistols. I've heard of kerosene for revolvers.

I'm curious about this as well. I'm a little stunned no one has replied. I thought there would be someone out there using it in the THR world. Maybe it suck or we are just to chicken to try it?

I considered it once but part of my gun cleaning routine is inspecting the firearm. That means at least field stripping it and eyeballing the various parts. I really doubt I'd be very comfortable skipping that inspection for more than one or two shooting sessions.

If I'm going to field strip it I might as well do the whole routine.

I use Ed's Red in a similar plastic bucket to dunk all my handguns. Most often I field strip and put the small parts in a small strainer of some sort. The Wal-Mart housewares section has several choices. Ed's Red is the best all-round cleaner for the cost. The recipe is on the web.

While you are searching for this, be sure to read anything C. E. "Ed" Harris has ever posted. He is a true firearms expert. Former Ruger engineer and writer for American Rifleman, back when that was a useful magazine.

The 'Dunk' kits are another way of separating you from your money. They work, but not as well as a proper cleaning.

I assumed submerging the barrel in a gun friendly solvent for 20 min. before brushing would be very proper cleaning.

A popular gun rag writer (who I can't remember at the moment) used this to clean a variety of 1911s he was torture testing. When I clean I sort of do the same thing with Simple Green and some of my girlfriend's Tupperware.

I used to use this stuff when I was competing and shooting more It and a compressor worked really well for me. I used to pull the slide and barrel off my high power and just let it soak for about 20 30 minutes and then blow it out with a compressor and wipe it off. I still used a brush on the barrel but it worked great. Probably need to get some more now that the wife and kids shoot with me every Monday.
