Hi all,
I was recently denied the purchase of a non-regulated firearm. Through some calls to the NICS help hotline, I determined it was because of something that happened back in 1995. I was charged as an adult for essentially defending myself with a weapon on my own property in an otherwise extremely gun-unfriendly area. After the details of the case came to light, the case was remanded to juvenile court, which in turn was ultimately placed on what is called a stet docket (sorta like probation before judgement). The key here is that a stet docket is NOT a conviction. Because it was remanded to juvenile court, the disposition is not visible to law enforcement agencies (except for the feds, I thought).

Prior to the denial, I went thru the process of clearing my name with the state of MD, which I am now clear to purchase regulated firearms (just picked up an RPK47) again. But non regulated (i.e. the Ruger 10/22 target rifle) is off limits until I am "officially" cleared by the feds.

So my question is this: Does anybody have any insight on the appeal process? I've already initiated the apeal process thru the NICS/FBI, but my impression is that this is going to take an awfully long time for something that won't be an issue when I'm 30 (I'm now 29).

What is the concensous of this? Any suggestions? Do I beat my head against a wll & wait until I'm 30? Do I fight this? I'm not sure, but I'm feeling a bit like I've been declared guilty for something that I was comepletely within my right to do (and yes, my lawyer & myself did check the legality of using a weapon to defend myself, even as a minor).

Thanks to all for any advice.

Edited for spelling
