Unfortunately in Arizona you cannot bring your CCW into an establishment with a liquor license (restaurant, bar), which is a pain in the butt. From what I can tell many law abiding citizens carry there anyway.

How many of you carry where you should not, by accident of course. Has anyone ever been made by management or LEO? What were the consequences? Can you lose your CCW privelages if caught?

Of course, I've never done it; but I live in WV. TENN, as I understand it, has the same no carry in liquor-lic places. Word is, if your made the Trooper will escort you out and ask that you leave weapon in car if you go backin. Dunno,
Pigeon Forge is dry.

Only been made once that I know of. It was just an observation: at work but nobody cared. Doesn't count the hugs that were OK, coool chicks!

was at a very fancy restaurant tonight ($500 bill for 8 people which IMO wasn't worth the money - they liberally applied salt to everything... ie: "would you like some veggies with your SALT?.... how about some meat.... WITH YOUR SALT!?")
lol

Anyways the rules in FL to my understanding are, you can eat in a restaurant that serves alcohol.... so long as you're eating. You can even to my understanding order a glass of wine or so... but it's super important that you're eating and not just drinking. You can't obviously get drunk, or anywhere close, as that does break the rules/law, and you can't go to the bar in the restaurant (if they have one).

I carry plenty in restaurants, I rarely ever order alcohol, partially because I'm carrying, partially because I don't drink that much, and also partially because alcohol in restaurants costs a fortune.

Whether or not I've been made.... I don't know. I suppose it's possible, but I'm not about to walk around table by table and say, "Good evening folks. Before I leave for the night, I was wondering if any of you happened to notice I have a gun on me?" ;)

So, I'll just make an effort not to be obvious, and hope for the best. That's all we can do.

I did it once when I did not know the law. However, I don't knowingly disobey the law.

The term is CONCEALED, and I have never been made and even friends who know I carry and my wife never have been able to determine if I am carrying or not. You have to wear the right clothes, and be careful how you move and especially bend over.
When sitting down be sure you know that the shirt or cover garment is not going to let your holster show.
I have not found it difficult, and almost all my carry is OWB.

Here in AR, you cannot carry and drink, but there is no blanket prohibition against carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol. So I in restaurants all the time. And, no have never been made.

I was with a friend when he got made in a restaurant once. The patio of a sidewalk cafe, actually, one of those places with plastic chairs. He was carrying in an SOB holster. He stood up and the chair followed him. Probably 10 people saw it, but I was laughing so hard and he was so plainly embarrassed that nobody really reacted as if we were "dangerous."

Of course, here in WA restaurants are just fine, legally speaking. The 21-or-over section of a bar is off limits, but if there's an attached restaurant where minors are allowed, concealed carry is also allowed there.

this is true. I dropped my fork tonight and was kinda stuck debating whether to pick it up or not. That rarely happens, but when it does it's a problem. The only way to pick stuff up like that is to kneel down (at least for me). I suppose I've gotten used to it.

That's an interesting twist. You can carry where the kids are, but not where the adults are. HMMMMMMMMMMMM............................

I have been researching. According to Arizona law the penalty for carrying into a bar (doesnt say a restaurant) is a Class 2 Misdemeanor (same as most hunting violations) with a penalty of 4 months in jail (1st offense) and or $750 fine. Pretty scarry if they decide to follow through with charges.....

It is a 4th degree felony for carrying in a place with a liquor license here in New Mexico. Change to the statute will allow you to carry concealed at places selling for off premises consumption only, but it will not take effect until next month.

We need to get some type of 51% rule or a law that requires you to have a low BAC some time in the future, but we will take any gain that we can get. Starting next month I won't have to wonder if I will lose my right to own firearms forever if I buy a bag of ice. :what:

To answer the original question, no, I have never been made in the past ~30 years (we have only had CCW for about 4 now). ;)

Not to be a smart @$$, but if "...many law abiding citizens carry there anyway..." then they are not law-abiding! We cannot afford to choose which laws to honor and which to disregard. If they dislike the law, or find it impossible to follow, they need to petition their representatives vigorously or sue as in Washington, DC. If they carry illegally, they are not law-abiding.

In NC we have the same no carry "where alcohol is sold and served". I've carried in restaurants that don't have liquor licenses and I think I was made once, but can't be sure. We were in Cracker Barrel with both of our kids and two of my nephews. I had an itch around the holster area and the next thing I know a guy a couple tables over is staring me down. I think he may have seen the printing of the gun when I went to scratch. I'm pretty careful about not carrying into alcohol serving restaurants around here. Have yet to do it by accident. Don't do it on purpose. I usually just leave it in the console of the truck.

Just a couple weeks ago I know I got made in a coffee shop. I was stopping off for my morning cup on the way to work and a guy who is another regular was in line ahead of me. He's a little person. His line of sight is right at my belt level. He gestured to me and said quietly, "you know, from my perspective I can see that" and smiled. I said thanks. He was cool about it at least. I'm pretty sure he's not an anti by his reaction. :)

It has nothing to do with the establishment having a liquor license. It specifically has to do with whether or not the establishment is serving alcohol on the premises to patrons. You can enter a Safeway grocery store without violating AZ CCW law, and they have a license to sell alcohol, but they do not serve on premises.

A restaurant may be a violation if they are serving alcohol in a bar on the property. I wouldn't chance it myself. Not worth loosing the permit over.

While I was not truly made in the sense that someone ID'ed the weapon, a sharp kid connected some of my carry behavior with his Dad's and asked if I was carrying. Compared to the kid's and his father's reactions, the reactions of some THR members were by far the worst aspect of the experience. Under Oregon law, there was no violation.

Here eating places are OK but gun shows are not and I did carry into one once when I forgot to leave my gun when my friend dropped me off. I could've unloaded it and had it ziptied but decided not to. The only time I was made was in a AZ pet store, reaching waaaaay down into a play pen thing to pet a puppy. The guy working wanted to see it - thought it was cool to carry. :)

I hope we get some clarification on this. I have relatives in Arizona that I plan to visit some time this year. I've never been made before in a social setting, so I'd probably carry into restaurant anyway, and plead "out of state" ignorance if detected. Concealed means concealed.

Florida says you can't carry in an establishment or portion thereof whose primary purpose is serving alcohol. That means you can carry in a restaurant, as long as you stay out of the restaurant bar.

Made = someone can tell that you are carrying - whether they can see the outline of your handgun or somehow see the handgun.

Sorry to be ignorant to CCL terminology, but what is "made?"

It means somebody figured out that you are, or saw that you are carrying

Exactly. You can't sit at the bar, and I suppose going to a place like Flanigan's would be iffy and time for a test case (although I wouldn't want to be it) as they do serve plenty of food, but most people who go there are going to drink (and food is secondary). But other places that happen to have a bar are fine. I was told in my CCW class to think of the 51% rule, but I was always left wondering how you could ever do that short of going up to the owner and saying, "Ok dude. Let me see your accounting books." lol

That's OK--it's good body mechanics anyway. Your back will thank you someday.
