I'm thinking about picking up some hi-cap steel and/or PMAG AR-15 & .308 mags & blocking them to 15 rounds. Yes, I know I can buy 10 rounders (I have several of them) and they do make 10 round blocks for PMAGS, but since I can have up to 15 rounds in NJ, I'd like to make some 15 rounders. :neener:

Only idea, that I can do based on the tools available to me (I don't have access to a machine shop or anything close) is drill a couple holes in the mag & insert rivets, but I'm not so sure they will hold up alone so I'm looking for more input. :scrutiny:

Rivets should hold up, as they would not have any significant stress acting on them in a loaded or unloaded magazine.

The best way would be welding, but not everyone has access to a welding machine, and welding aluminum especially can be tricky.

IIRC, the NJ state AG said blocking hi-cap mags was illegal, had to be 10 rounders only, but that has gone back and forth for years in NJ.

If legal, go with the removable plugs.

It's legal to block mags here b/c vendors sell blocked mags for us.

It's not illegal to block mags in NJ but if you are going to block them then it needs to be a permanent block, i.e. welded in.

Easiest quick block which remains legal is to insert block MAKE SURE IT MAXS AT 15 ROUNDS, drill through mag body and use pop rivets. Ugly but functional.

OR, got to http://arms-n-ammo.com/ and buy Pmags already done for you or the kits to do it.

He hasn't had the DIY kits in stock for quite some time now.

It'd be cheaper to block mags I already have access to than spend $ on new mags.

Telling me to move is really no help at all

I block mags by welding on an extension at the base of the follower, usually. I've blocked quite a few things when I lived back east, to be legal when hunting with interesting items.

(I've hunted deer with a PSL) :D

I live in New Jermany too, and I have gotten the mags from Arms N Ammo and they are wonderul! Anti tilt follower and reasonably priced. You can also get 15 rounders that look factory (no rivets etc) from Midway but they are pricey. Also don't have the anti tilt follower. thats my 2 cents

I have a couple of those mags myself. I want to block my own (cheaper)

PTK, I have nothing to weld with
