I have a Colt Cobra that I'd like to carry as a backup. The problem is, I only have one holster for it, an OWB strong-side holster. I'm too broke for another holster at the moment.

Has anyone carried such a holster on their weak side in the cross draw position? What are the advantages/disadvantages of this?

The only problem I can see is that many strong side holsters are slanted with the grip forward for easier drawing (while on the strong side, that is). If it's a non-adjustable holster, it may just have grip slanted a little too far to your back and MAY be awkward to draw while on the weak side.

What is the gun and whats your strong side?

The holster more or less stands totally upright.

The gun is a Colt Cobra with a 2'' barrel and I am right-handed.

I have done what you contemplate but there is a couple of big downsides to crossdraw. First it's easy to sweep to the left with the muzzle as you're drawing. Many ranges and LE agencies forbid use of cross draw holster for this reason.

More importantly you gun is kind of offered to your opponent if you're in a less than lethal encounter that can become lethal real quick. It's easy for your opponent to grab your gun while he's facing you.

I have done that especially if I'm going to in a car for a prelonged period of time. My pancake has three slotes.

A vertical holster works fine for crossdraw. If there is any play between the loops and belt, it may even be canted forward to fascilitate a crossdraw even more (paddle hosters sometimes can be angled a bit). As others have stated, you have to be a little more aware of gun grabbers, and the wind exposing your gun as the butt is more foraward that most strong side carry positions. I still like the crossdraw, as I'm not doing police work anymore, so the lack of suspects and arrestees means I only have to worry about the people I choose to wrestle with.....

Well, it's for a second weapon, so if I ever need to draw it, bad things are already happening and I'm desperate.

Sounds like I might have to try it.
