I have a CZ52 and love it as a range gun. I've tinkered and tweaked to the point that I probably have one of the nicer triggers you'll ever find on one.

But the design is too old and unsafe for me to ever consider it as a carry weapon unless I had no other choice at all.

I will admit that I did carry it (open carry) a couple of times at gun shows where they make you "peace bond" the gun anyway so it was more for the principle of the thing as opposed to being actually useful.

Did have about a dozen folks ask me if it was for sale though <grin>.

I carry a TT-33 which uses the same round. Very high velocity. A CZ52 really isn't much bigger than a 1911A1. If the decocker works properly you should be able to carry a round in the chamber. One solution for the decocker is to install a stop so you can't push the safety all the way up to decock mode. Or is it down? I forget because I don't own one.

By the way... If you installed a new firing pin and and safety mechanism, would that fix the decocker problems that seem to plague so many CZ52's?

I'm glad to see this post! I will be having to make the choice to either carry mine in the near future (moved back home to help my father's recovery from an accident) if I am needed here long enough to have to change my residency (BOY do we need to fix the lack of a NATIONAL carry license :banghead:). I have used mine on several occasions, and strangely enough, this is the second most naturally pointing pistols I have owned yet! The #1 most naturally pointing pistol for me is the makarov, I shot it at the gun show where I bought it (first time EVER shooting a firearm) and thought I had somehow missed with the second shot because I printed the second one (both nicely between the eyes of the silhouette ). In case your wondering, I have owned about 10 + pistols over the last 10 yrs, and I have tried just about every popular modern one in ranges. I started out a fan of 9mm, moved up to a Kimber .45, and since concentrated more on my hunting long guns & 12ga Mossburg, (I was living in Montana at the time, and trust me, way less dealings with the goblins there than here) I hadn't given much thought to CCW since Montana has so much more common sense gun laws than most states on the "Left Coast". So atm, I have only the '52 as an option (parents don't really understand why I would want a firearm in-case of a home invasion, so unfortunately the 12ga is locked up:banghead:). I have recently put a modern firing pin in my '52, and other than a loose safety selector, it has no problems. I had no problems de-cocking on a live round in the past, but since I haven't had a chance to test out the new pin, I keep it on empty, if I have to use my quick safe to access it anyway, it's really not taking that much more time to rack the slide too.

I have been very curious to know of any specific problems any of you have had (other than the ones already posted) I have been fortunate, my pistol looks ugly on the outside (some possible blood corrosion) but beautiful mechanically. Other than having to get used to the loud discharge, I have never found it anything but a joy to shoot. I will be using a belly band IWB holster if I end up staying long enough in the Peoples Republic of Portland Oregon (where only the gang-bangers most likely MS-13 seem to be carrying) and I am more worried about ordinary citizens trying to cause trouble for me simply for carrying legally

I scored 2 "new in the goo" magazines at the last gun show for $45, and have never had a problem with the one that I have that is broken in, and from what information I have gathered, my particular CZ52 appears to be a "carry over", no import stamps, and looks like it had a thorough factory reconditioning.

I am also very interested in the .223 Timbs, have any of you tested some of this ammo out? I would LOVE to see some more first hand info about ballistic performance for this multi-purpose round, I would suspect at 2,000+ FPS this would be nearly a "pocket carbine" when some .223 rounds are near the 2300 FPS mark.

Sorry for the long-winded post :D. I've been home-bound with a severe sinus infection for the last couple mons, and have had nothing but time on my hands looking for more info on the .223 Timbs, but have yet to seen anything more than anecdotal. Would really love to see something along the lines of "The Box of Truth" testing for this round, if not a full-on test with ballistic gello. Currently I have Mag Safe rounds for the '52 since I am concerned more about going through too many walls since I can't have my 12ga inside. Have any of you used Mag Safe rounds as well? I am sure the PoI will be different, but if anyone has tried and can say it goes 2" low and left or something along these lines would be great! Love this site btw, I have been a part of other boards (mostly ultimate Subaru message board), don't know why it took me so long to look for boards on this subject! :D

CZ 52 tips...

1) Pinch the magazine bottom sides so it won't come off while shooting. If you don't, the bottom will probably work its way loose and the spring inside will bounce to who knows where. It did with me, twice.

2) Get a Harrington heavy duty firing pin & trigger kit. The original one will break sooner or later.

3) Make sure that the pin that holds in the slide catch is peened out enough to keep it flat on the frame. I replaced the pin with a tiny, grade 8 allen screw and locking cap nut.

4) If you have hard primer milsurp ammo, put a little washer or two under the hammer spring as a spacer so it hits a little harder.

Do these 4 things and it's a whole 'nother gun. If you like shiny things, look at mine....

PS: I'd like to sell the grips in the pic. Anyone?

Great tips, ty, but for some reason can't get the pic of your CZ to work .. I have a new modern firing pin, and soon I will have a barrel, rollers and new recoil spring, what spring would you recommend? Makarov.com says 16.5lb spring, another site recommends 18.5lb for their ammo, am I safe going 18.5lb or could that affect the reliablity when cycling the lower pressure military ball ammo?
