Hi everyone,

Just got a Kahr CW40 last week. As I mentioned in another thread, it has a couple of problems. First of all, the thing will often not go back into battery. By often, I mean about once in 10 shots. I MAY be "limp wristing" it, since this is my first subcompact, but I don't think so. Anyone else seen this, or have any advice to offer?

Secondly, the mag drops out about once per magazine. This happens at various points (first round, last round, middle, etc), so I don't think it's a mag spring issue. From what I understand, there are two available versions of the magazine catch (a plastic one and a metal one), and that is likely the problem. I was also told that my thumb may have been hitting the mag release button, but I don't think that's it. Just wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas.

Thanks,
Ric

I would think

if u just bought it, that it would have the new metal mag catch.. Best thing to do in your case is to get a friend who has some shooting experience and go out and let him fire it 25 rounds. If it gives him the same issues u are hiving, my bet it is gun related. If he has no isuses then it is shooter related.

You did not mention if you got this new or what and how many rounds down range you have shot through it yet.

karh recommeds a minimum of 200 rounds for good break in, Have you greased the rails properly .

A good thing to try is do the above and then just sit there and rack the slide about 500 times as fast as you can, thisi helps break in without the bang thing.

another good thing to look at is go to glock talk.com and hit on the kahr forum and about the 4th sticky down is a photo diagram of proper lubrication points on a kahr. This is an excellent photo dispaly to. .

Not saying you need to do this either but if you have a dremel or a buddy does give the feed ramp and inside the chamber a good polishing with one of dremels cotton cone awabs. It will fit right inside the chamber even. Flitz or dremel polishing compound will do this in 5 minutes. NO dremel, just get some 600++ grit auto sand paper and do the same thing. . This is something that I do to every semi I own. glock, Smiths, kahrs.

if you stil have some issues please PM me.

good luck and just shoot it like u stole it.

Break this gun in with fmj ammo, skip that defense hp stuff until the gun is reliable, pretty expensive stuff to be just breakingin the gun..

Thanks. Yes, I bought it new. I have put 150 rounds through it so far. I intend to have someone else shoot it, as well.

And I'm DEFINITELY using FMJ... I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaayy to cheap to be putting HP through it just for early practice! :)

I'll go have a look at Glock talk as well.... thanks for the heads up.

I had one a couple of years ago and also had a number of problems with it. While I did not have any issues with the mag release, I did have the problem you mentioned with the slide not going back into battery. This was continuing to occur some time after the 200 round break-in period. Also the slide itself was very difficult to rack, as well as the barrel being very poorly finished from the factory. The last problem was the deal breaker for me; large pieces of the polymer frame were coming off and getting lodged around the slide release lever. What finally ended up happening is that the slide release was being engaged after every cycle, thus making my gun a single shot pistol. That was enough for me and I sold it soon afterward. Hope you have better luck with your CW40than I had with mine.
