I love shooting center fire but ammo is just through the roof and my local Walmarts are perpetually out of stock, so lately I've been upgrading my plain jane Ruger MkIII 22/45.

Current Upgrades:
Wolff springs

In the mail:
Clark Hammer Bushing
Clark Target Trigger
Volquartsen Target Sear
Volquartsen Extractor

In the very near future:
Pac-Lite 4.5" threaded upper w/ rail
Pac-Lite Compensator

In the distant future:
Docter Red Dot
Silencer? Who knows...

Is anyone else having fun with their 22 while the ammo market goes haywire?

I love shooting 22. I got a Marvel precision 22 conversion on top of my Kimber custom with a small Adco red dot. The kiber is already sweet out of the box. The Marvel conversion comes from the factory with a target showing 3/4" group at 50 yards.
Also I got a Spikes Tactical 22 lr upper for my AR.

I have a friend who builds guns for some "special government employed customers". He told me that he just finished a $10,000 .22 rifle. After I woke up and treated the bruise on my head where I had passed out, I was amazed at some of the upgrades and cost of said upgrades that he put on that rifle.

Right now I only have a Red Dot sight on my MKII Government Target Model, but this thread has me wanting to tweak it a bit further. The gun is already incredibly accurate, would love to make it moreso!

A silencer and good trigger of the best upgrades you can make to a firearm that is reasonably accurate. I make my own silencers and work on my own triggers, although I have to admit that my work is not professional grade. The silencers reduce noise very well even if the finish is subpar.

I've been scratching the .22 itch lately; finally got around to scoping my 10/22 Target Tactical (Leupold VX-I 2-7x32) and finally got the new barrel, fiber optic front site, muzzle break (until I can afford a suppressor), and rail for my Buckmark (soon to come, Burris FastFireII).

Here's the 10/22:

If you feel the urge to soup up a .22 pistol for any reason, you might be better off and money ahead by simply going out and finding an original Whitney Wolverine.

Make sure that you get the original, however. The remake is a mere shadow of the granddaddy or ray guns from the 1950s.

Ranb,

What did you do to the trigger? I have a Buckmark and while the trigger is already good, it could be that much better.

Haha. Well, after shooting 2000 rounds of .22, and considering what it would cost to shoot 2000 rounds of 9mm, I think I'll be doing okay.

Yeah. I load my own .357 & .45ACP and the cost is still significant.

I was sorely tempted today by a Ruger 22/45 w/4" slabbed barrel & adjustable sights on sale for $269. Just couldn't bring myself to buy a plastic pistol. Have my eye on a used 4" MK III though...

walksbyhimself,

I have not worked on the buckmark trigger yet. I have swapped AR-15 triggers and stoned 1911 triggers though.

Anyone ever replace the Buckmark barrel? I tried two Volquartsen barrels that looked very nice, but neither one fit right. Volquartsen's proposed solution was to modify my frame. My solution was to return the barrel. After many messages left on their phone and threats to reverse the CC charges they refunded me over a month later.

I had a Mark III 6 7/8" slab side comp and added a Voltquartsen sear & trigger. I ended up selling it for my new love... Best feeling and most accurate .22 I ever shot. It was expensive, but I will keep it for the rest of my life.

All I have done is get some Beretta factory thumb rest grips and throw a Millett 3 moa red dot on it... I may get a trigger job one of these days, but we'll see.

Beretta 87 target with Millett SP-1..

My Tactical Solutions barrel was plug and play, so to speak. Very happy with both the weight reduction and the accuracy (only lost about 1/8" or so in terms of groups from factory to the new one and that's with a reduction in length of about an inch and a half).

Sucks that the Volquartsen didn't work out.

giving new life to an old dog, I just finished an order for midwayusa for my 10/22 ....

- Volquartsen exact edge extractor
- Volquartsen recoil buffer
- Volq automatic bolt release
- Volq hex takedown screw
- Wolff trigger/hammer spring pack

The parts should arrive sometime next week
