Anyone Else Tempted To Sell?

When you are able to fend for yourself, you get to decide if you have guns in your place.

I wonder then, why did the OP purchase 3 weapons in the first place, given his parents "anti-gun" stance? Did his parents know ahead of time about these purchases? If so, why did they allow such a thing to take place?

Who knows....

Regardless, based on the original post, this all seems to have more to do with financial concerns and/or practicality vs. parental issues.

It is generally always a bad idea to sell a firearm, for whatever reason. If you want to sell one to make a profit now, you'll regret the sale six months from now when the gun is worth even more, or a year from now when it's worth more yet.

How many of us have sold guns somewhere along the line that we wish we had right now? I'll bet the answer is most everyone who frequents this board.

It just depends on what you want.

We all have an ideal collection in our heads, based on what we feel we need, what we feel is a classic, etc. If a gun conforms to that ideal, you'll keep it. If it doesn't you won't. You don't need to ask us.

I have only sold one rifle...ever...rifles are my "thing". As far as pistols...I have owned three and sold two...leaving me with one now (my first, biggest, and definitely the best). I haven't regretted selling any of my firearms, but there are some that I most certainly would. Best advice I can give is to do what feels right to you. :)

Wow - twelve posts deleted and four 'cleansed', all in a single thread. That has GOT to be a record for me.

Y'all know better. Those of you who lost posts should consider yourself advised that next time you post that kind of content I will summarily boot your fanny outta here for a short vacation. You know better than to clog up THR with poly ticks and such, and I absolutely expect better.

Seriously.

Never sell a gun. Period.

I never have understood this sort of thinking.
I think that I do. Chances are, you bought the gun in the first place because you found it of interest. Having lost immediate interest doesn't mean that at some point in the future you won't rekindle that interest. I have sold more than a few guns over the years that I really wish I had back, right about now.

And yes, I have sold a few guns (and ammo and primers) for a modest profit in the last six months. I have used that money to help fund other purchases of steel-n-wood sporting arms that are being dumped on the market as folks either need money or need to fund EBR purchases. I see nothing wrong with that, and as a matter of conscience have generally sold for at least ten percent under market value.

YMMV.

You are 19 and still in your parents house?

Ah, nice to jump on a 19yo in the middle of a recession/depression for living with his parents...:banghead:

Its not where you live at 19, its how many millions you have at 50 that counts. :neener:

Anyways.

Never sold a gun for profit. The margins on reselling a gun are actually kind of low if you take inflation into account, not counting what you can make because of the gougers/panic buying. I have traded a gun (in on another gun) I really disliked to get it out of my safe though.

I wont sell any of my stuff unless I really really have to but I have thought about how much I "could" make if I tried to sell some of my stuff.
I dont see SKS's for under $300 anymore, they were $100. not to long ago.
Same goes for ammo, I see cases of 7.62x39 selling for $300+ I remeber complaining when they were half that.
So that gets me thinkin I could get close to $1000. for some stuff I got a few hundred into, but like I said it aint happnin

I have what I like and I like what I have. I see no need to sell for any reason. Maybe when I get too old to be able to hold a gun in my hands I'll think about it. Until then, not a chance. lol

I didn't get the "poly ticks" thing right away...

I thought, is that some kind of tick I never heard of? Are they dangerous? :uhoh:

Then I "got it" :D

And BTW, it all happened in under 5 seconds. :)

I didn't get the "poly ticks" thing right away...
For others that didn't...politics from the Latin "poly" meaning more than one, and the Dutch "tick" meaning blood sucking parasite. Pretty accurate word. :D

I have been trying to not sell any, and I haven't in a while unless it was to trade up for something I liked more.

I have one gun that is absolutely positively not expendable. My grandpa died when my mom was sixteen, and when my grandma died a couple of years ago I got his old Winchester Model 20. Its an old single barrel break open .410 shotgun that isn't worth a whole lot (may 6-800 bucks) of money, but I would sell my car and both kidneys before I let that one go.

The only other gun I would keep without question is something for personal protection. Right now it is my G32. Soon it might be my new Kimber. Doesn't matter what, as long as I have one I can count on. (I prefer 1911s, though :D)

Everything else can be replaced. My 870, 700, .22 rifles, Mausers, Mosins, handguns,...well, all of them can be replaced pretty quickly and easily.

As far as regrets....
Well a buddy managed to get his hands on my CZ 452 Lux and I doubt I'll get it back. I'm working on it, though. ;). The others...
SW 28, Marlin 25mn, Colt 1991a1 (getting that one back soon, though), Ultra CDP II...the list goes on and on.
