I had a couple of really nice Indian Head Pennies that I have wanted to do something with. So, I set them into the grips of my Bond Derringer. Was easy to do and looks really nice. They are mounted flush with the grip and really add a little old-west flair to my favorite pocket gun. Here are a couple of pics:

Never made any from scratch but I've modified a few. Bought some stags for a Model 10 that came way too big and thick so I thinned them, fitted them, polished them and installed the S&W emblems. I am happy with the results.

Thank you gentlemen. I used an appropriately sized forstner bit to drill the hole. Used a dremel to do the fine tuning and then the miracle of JB Weld to secure it in the grip. Popped off a few heavy loads to make sure it would not jar anything loose. A 3/4" bit is a perfect press fit for an old coin like that. I am eying an old .50 silver piece to put in my single action sixgun grips - maybe even an old brothel token from Tombstone or something similar.

I have a few nice bits of turquiose and some silver wire that will find its way into something as well.

Those S&W grips are beautiful!

I'd LOVE to use a couple of $20 gold pieces, but they are a might spendy for me. I think I'll be relegated to silver at best for now. Still, I suppose that for the perfect West Texas BBQ gun, my Sheriff's model Vaquero COULD use a little dressing up with some gold in the grips...

Hmmmm, might have to hit the gold shop now.
