The bluing is starting to wear off some of the aluminum parts of my Heritage rough rider (22lr/22mag combo). I was wondering if anyone on here has completely removed the blue from all or some of the aluminum parts of one. What I'm thinking about is getting all the bluing off the ejector housing atleast, then maybe doing the rest of the gun as need be. Right now the ejector rod housing is about the worse but it's starting to show all over. If anyone has, can you post some pics and tell me what you used to do it?

I don't think you can blue aluminum, it might be anodizing or paint?

Man, I thought I'd get more responses than just one. So does anyone know what kinda finish is used on the Rough rider? Let's say I want to try taking the ejector rod housing down to the bare aluminum. How would I do it and what/if anything should I apply to the aluminum to prevent corrosion ?

Wish I could tell ya man. My heritage is starting to look tiedyed. The strap on the handle is turning a unappealing gray where the finish is wearing off, the ejector rod housing is plum colored where the finish is wearing thin, and the cylinder/rest of frame is still black. The cool/bad thing about this gun is that I didn't get it cleaned very well before I left for the service. Fastforward about 6 years when I get it back and my thumb print is literally rusted into the side of the hammer. I can always prove it was mine, but that etching will never clean off (so I just make sure I keep it coated with clp and clean it every couple of months even if it hasn't been shot).

Emailed and called heritage on another matter. Great people and I am sure they can help you, They might even refinish it free!
