I'm really just "thinking out loud" here....so add or delete your thoughts as necessary!!
Good post......it got me thinking about "Powder Blast" (Birchwood-Casey?) which is essentially what you are talking about (avail. at Wal-Mart).....a good cleaner/solvent with a little P.S.I. push behind it to blow away much of the crud. I love the stuff, but you have to get it off plastic/polymer very fast or it starts eating away at it. The other draw back is, because of the ammt. of pressure they have in the can, it's easy to over-use and clean out a can of the stuff very quickly. But for all those hard-to-reach nooks and crannies it works really well. I swear by the stuff.
Break Free CLP is good (IMHO) for what it does, but it's SO greasy, and +1 to the "atomized CLP" comment. The stuff is just nasty to breathe in.
But overall, I think the concept is great. Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out!! (Just remember to do it outside, or crack a window, or wear a bubble-boy suit!)
