Anyone from the Denver area?

Thanks for the feedback, Morgan. I've tried calling Jensen's many times, but the manager seems to think I'm trying to give him a free six-month trial of anthrax.

I was wondering about K2. That is where I always shoot (it's the closest place) and I recently did a membership there a few months back. But one day I showed up on a Sunday evening thinking I had a couple hours, and they had changed their hours and were closed. They are also now closed Monday and Tuesday.

It would be unfortunate if they did go under, though I'd be a little confused if they did. There always seem to be a fair number of people there (not packed or anything, but usually not a ghost town). Their gun prices seem too high to me (though I haven't looked at a lot there), they could probably move more if they were more reasonable.

Perhaps they just have too much debt from the remodel a few years back?

:(

I'd rate [the Firing line] up there with Dave's as being known for high prices.

True, Lenny is proud of some of the guns (ie, FN Five-seveN for $1199  ), but for the most part he beats other independant gun shops by a decent margin. Heck, he set out a new S&W .460 for $1039 before anyone else even had one. I've bought many guns there, including a Beretta 84FS Inox for $479-$100 less than Daves. I do go to Dave's when they have sales. I bought a Used, slightly holster worn S&W 4006 w/ nite sights and 2 mags there for $299. Also got my Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm there on sale for $899.

I guess I should say that I always shop around first, even though I have a pretty good idea what most main-stream firearms should sell for. I have usually found L&M to be competitive. On the same note, I will always pay a little more ($20 or $30) to support a small business, rather than going to a big chain sporting goods store. I have bought a couple guns from Sportman's warehouse, but that is only because they gave me a rather high credit line :uhoh:

I've been to K-2 at least 7 or 8 times to shoot since I live just down the street. The range is nice and clean. A great facility and the prices to shoot were reasonable.

I haven't been in there for a while, but in the 7 or 8 trips I've never seen anything for sale at K-2 that even resembled a good deal. (MachIVshooter did find a few) Their prices reminded me of the old "Dean's Firearms" store on Colfax.

If you're at K-2, simply drive another mile down the road to Green Mountain Guns. Decent selection and great prices. Check out the used case. At least every other time I go in they've got a few bargains. If you want even better prices (the best in town hands down) go to Tom & Joe's. Selection is not good, but if you're willing to wait a couple days for Tom to order it he will give you the best price.

Ok, I'm back.

I came from HELLinois, and let me tell you it was a bit of a shock the first time I bought a gun out here. No wait or anything -- it took me longer to fill out the 4473 than the backround check took and no silly I.D. card just drivers licnese. Awesome.

I moved out here to go to the Colorado School of Trades. Droped out of grad school cause I hated it. I'm half way done now, should graduate in mid to early April. I'll post pics of some of the guns I'm building when they are done.

So far I've been shoping at greenmountain and the gun room. I visited dave's and it was cool, nice guys there, but I see why people complain about their prices. Green mountain is a little cluttered but good help and pretty good prices--their customer service is really good there, hey they put up with me. The gun room is pretty impressive in terms of their stock, I've never seen so many colt SAA in one place, lots of custom 1911's (not that I can afford any of this stuff but it's nice to dream), and good revolvers - they had a victory that I wanted so bad. Only thing is, they have a pretty small evil black rifle section.

Shooting wise, I've been to K2. I live on Jewell and K2 is about 30 seconds down the street. When it's warm I go to this little place -- you take 294 South (I think 294 or 5) and you go until you hit the first stop light and take a left. You go through the burned forest and past a nice little bar/restaurant called the elk club (good bbq) and on the left there is a little dirt road. It's more like a junk pit but it's fun. My friend works at Cherry Creek, so I have been thinking about going there as well.
