I didn't know such a thing existed until today. Apparently, CZ has put out a limited run (200 or so, although I suspect CZ will be making many more) of CZ-75s with the rounded trigger guard and regular hammer. I don't know whether it has the trigger safety block. I picked up a 2004 CZ-75 at the Houston gun show this afternoon. Comes with two 16-round mags and looks exactly like my '84 CZ-75, only NIB.

There were some left at the Pasadena show, in case anyone in the Houston area is interested.

When I saw the title, I was going to tell you to go to the Glock forum and see about someone who just picked one up! then I realized that it was you!!

Yep, that was me on glocktalk, which is where I got the idea of buying a new CZ today (I wasn't planning to go to the gun show). Sorry but I don't have a digital camera. There's one listed on gunbroker.com

My '84 CZ has a glossy finish; this one has the same flat finish as the 75B. The retro says Czech Republic vs Czechoslovakia for the '84. While both guns have the same hammer configuration, it is slimmer on the retro. I don't know if there's a trigger safety on the retro version. The retro comes with CZ's old plastic grips, which aren't quite like those from the pre-1989 era.

I haven't had a chance to take it to the range just yet; I suppose it will perform just as well as any other full-size CZ. Having the option to buy a 75 instead of a 75B is nice. I bet the retros will sell like hot cakes. Nice move, CZ.

The RETRO is a standard 75B (B=firing pin block) in every respect, except appearance.

It has the pre-B tang hammer and the rounded trigger guard, but it's still a 75B. The differences are cosmetic.

And that's good, as parts won't be an issue, later, as might be the case with a true pre-B.

While most parts are generally interchangeable between the B and pre-B models, there are differences, and hammers are one of them -- with several different hammers (widths, and designs) in the older guns. Many cannot use newer parts in all places. There is no critical shortage of anything that I know of, but there could be some shortages one of these days.

Some folks REALLY like the look of the Retro -- I do. If I were buying a new 75B, it would be a Retro.

finish

in the pics i have seen the finish looks kinda different. is it polycoat like the standard models?

CZ originally said the finish was going to be phosphate. I'm glad they went with the tougher polycoat.
