I have read a lot of reviews of this, mostly favorable. I would like to know what people who own or have actually one of these think. Getting one of these would blow my shooting budget for a long time, I know I could buy a respectable RIA AND a new Glock or xd for less. I Have a few "Good" handguns, but I want something great. Wilson combat, les baer, ed brown, those are just not in my budget, but the Colt rail gun seems to have a lot of attributes of those custom jobs. I even saw some place the Marine MARSOC command was considering adapting colt rail gun as the m24 for use. I admit the name "Colt" really apeals to me as the original 1911 producer ( I think? ). I saw and and like the basic colt 1911 for around 900 but for only a couple hundred more, you get a lot of enhancments found on higher end stuff, I think the match barrel alone would justify the higher cost. What do you folks think?

colt rail 1911

i bought one several months ago and its a fine shooter ,with the match barrel very accurate. i've tried several types of ammo ,from fmj to jhp plus p and not the first problem , plus the fact that is a colt its a keeper.

I don't have the rail gun but I've picked up three new Colt 1911's this year and all have been fantastic:)

People can say what they want about Colt in the past but the fit and finish of their current production guns is superb.

And it's a Colt;)

Squars, very nice! Looks like you have had some custom work done at at least a couple of those? Basicly the rail gun is a colt xse ( Enhanced basic colt ) with the additional rail. I am off to the gun shop.

Back from the shop. All the dealer could find was one 2 tone version. I thought about it, then decided to pass. He showed me a printout from thier invoice, and in spot it said it was a series 80, in another it said was a series 70, it said came with 7 rd mags, but the website says they come with 8. I am not sure I trust the cerakote finish to hold up to scratches from hard use ( If I decided to make a carry gun ). I definatly do not see the point in having nice rosewood grips only to have them blacked out like that. He couldnt say for sure if the gun had the "100 years of service" roll mark. I am pretty sure I have seen some online that dont.

In the end, I opened up an invoice, put down a refundable deposit and decided to wait for them to find what I went in to get. They couldnt give me any time line at all. I may call colt and see what they can do. I noticed they do link to this dealer through thier website.

check out the Colt Combat Elite

One of my favorite and most accurate 1911 is the Colt Combat Elite which is a XSE like the rail gun you are interested in. Both come with a National Match barrel. Mine is more accurate than my 70 series Gold Cup. Quality is very good too. I did not think I would need a rail and thought it might create a balance problem.
Buy either one and I am sure you will be happy.

Rail gun is a series 80 but don't let all the internet hype about the firing pin safety bother you, it works just fine.

I don't particularly care for the two tone one either, you're better off waiting on the one you want.

My XSE came with 8 round mags

I have one, sort of. It's somewhere between Bud's Gun Shop and my neighborhood FFL. Ask me again Tuesday night.

Check out Bud's, they keep getting them in stock and then selling them out.

I went for the unfinished version because I want to get the front strap checkered and maybe get the whole thing dehorned at the custom shop, at which point I'd get it totally cerakoted black except maybe the barrel, bushing, hammer, and trigger.

The ones that I've checked out have reasonable triggers and have good fit and finish. We'll see what shows up next week.

PS: they have model numbers with "70" or "80" in them which is confusing: O1070RG, O1970RG, O1980RG

All are the same thing with different finishes.

It is confusinh with the serial numbers, in fact the dealer told me those numbers meant that first 2 numbers meant those models were series 70 while the last one was a series 80. I dont like coming across as some kinda persnickity know it all but I brought a printout directly from the colt website to the shop to show them exactly what I wanted & I am glad I did. I I told him I like wood grips to look like wood ( I was considering the 2 toner. He showed me a couple kimber 2 toner kimbers on the shelf that are that way ( 2 tone with stainless cobtrols & wood grips.) That does look good, but I like the stainless better. I politely pointed out to him in the spec section on the printout where it clearly states "blackended wood grips" I think he is wrong about the series 70 thing also. The re are definatly other colt models that are nice but I defintly want the rail on there. I personly purchsed a light I use on my work gun, but I do not have any guns I personly own with rails this will likely be my last be my last pistol purchse for a while so it needs the rail. I could order from online but that will add 100 or more to the cost so for now I'll wait. I plan on calling colt monday to see what that can do for me.

Keep blowing circuts when I try to fire mine, they take too much energy. Oh the Colt your talking about? Totally different gun sorry.

??

No sales tax if you order from out-of-state (9% for me), shipping is free, and maybe a $25 transfer fee for your FFL. There is a non-cash fee of about 3% that Bud's tacks on if you use a credit or debit card. You must have a real bargain dealer locally if you can beat that.

The best I could do in town (Cabela's) was about $1080, tax would be about $97, so $1177 bought locally. Buds is $971 now, $10 insurance (shipping is free), $25 transfer fee = $1006. I actually paid an extra 3% for the non-cash fee since I don't like giving out the routing number for my checking account, but that's just me, and it adds another $30 or so.

One of my local dealers quoted "around $980" but he couldn't find one from any distributor. With tax it would be $1068.

Unfortunately, it takes about a week for them to ship it, and almost another week for it to show up since the ordering spanned a holiday weekend, and the shipping spans another weekend. Not great for the instant gratification type, like me.

I also have a Colt Combat Elite. Great gun. Well built, and accurate. Sorry I'm not fond of the 1911 rail gun look, but that's just my opinion.

I don't either, but I need a gun with a rail, and I'm constrained to 1911s or Glocks, so, of course I got the 1911.

Finally got it.

It felt like it was covered with really fine grit and everything felt really rough to operate, especially the ambi trigger left handed.

Took it completely apart, cleaned it, lubed everything, re-assembled and now it works great. It's really a beautiful pistol, it blows my Springfield Mil-Spec out of the water in fit and finish, and I can't wait to go shoot the thing.

The trigger is going to need a little work since there's a smooshy hop right before it breaks from the firing pin safety, and the mag release is a little short for my thumb.

I'll probably get a steel MSH with a lanyard loop, an extended magazine catch, and eventually it will go back to the custom shop for some checkering, a trigger job, and get it cerakoted black.

I took home an all stainless one a few months ago and I love it- My shop was only able to get one all stainless model, everything else has been the two tone.. they sell pretty well and one customer let me shoot his- very accurate (mines a safe queen- i have other Colts to shoot :)
I heard that Colt retooled a year or two ago so no more sloppy 80s
