Does anyone have a Henry Small Game Rifle [H001TRP]?

I got a carbine but it shot way high...so put a scope on it.

However, I'm thinking about getting a rifle length model to try the Skinner sight out on again,....but don't want to get another one that shoots high.

Any experience on one would be very helpful.

I've been looking at the carbine. From what I've learned from my searches on rimfirecentral.com, you need to contact Henry or Skinner about getting a taller front sight.

My brother recently bought a .44 from them, and it shot real high. He called them and they were very understanding and didn't hesitate to send him another front sight. It shoots right on now....
Very nice people to deal with.

Why would Henry send rifles out knowing the front sight is too low? If they want to put out a Skinner rear sight model, then they should do the testing on them to see where they're going to hit and insert the correct front sight.

:banghead:

I sent a comment to one of their techs, so hopefully I will get an answer to this sometime this week.

Just out of curiosity,,,

Just out of curiosity,,,
What do you consider to be a "Henry small game rifle"?

I had a Henry H001 lever rifle in .22 LR,,,
It was a nice enough little rifle but I sold it.

I bought a Henry Acu Bolt single-shot .22,,,
It is as basic a single-shot as was ever made.

It is as accurate a field rifle as I've ever seen.

I'm too old with fuzzy vision to utilize it's potential,,,
But a sharpshooter lady friend of mine shoots dime groups at 50 yards.

I was just curious as to your definition.

Well, that's embarrassing,,,

the Henry Small Game Rifle is a specific model from Henry that has the large loop, 16" or 20 " octagon barrel, no dove on the barrel for a rear sight,....and a Skinner peep sight drilled and tapped on the receiver.

Well, that's embarrassing,,,

I have a Small Game Rifle, I have had it for approximately one year now.

I am one of those who found mine to shoot quite high. I don't want to point fingers at Henry or Skinner, as I don't know what distance they were trying to zero.

I found the quickest, easiest correction was a taller front sight and while switching the sight, I took the opportunity to install an FO front bead. I do not remember the original or final blade height, but the difference is approx 1 bead.

There are several threads related to small game rifle/carbine sight "problems" over on www.rimfirecentral.com. I am clearly not the only owner who had problems with the rifle shooting high, but I don't think it is an "every rifle" problem. Try it and see. If your eyes/hold don't work as well as you need, and you cannot adjust the rear enough, then change the sight. It's pretty easy if you have a good punch and vise.

One of the techs got back to me,.....said that they should work without a front sight replacement. If they don't, sending them in for repair under warranty is the best option.
