Anyone have experience with American brand ammo?

When it comes to ammo it boils down to cost vs. effect! If you have a junker range pistole that you dont care if the barrel gets trashed and youll spend twice the time cleaning it, BY ALL MEANS THE CHEEPER THE BETTER! In my case I have invested alott ofmy hard earned mmoney into my pistoles and would NEVER run garbage through them! You will end up spending the same amount of money in the long run on repairs and or replacement so if you value your gun, dont go to the range if you cant afford it!
In this case cheaper won't do, Amerc is dangerous, so in this case you are at risk for physical injury, not just destroying weapon, and Amerc has the dubious distinction of blowing up more Glocks than any other brand of ammunition. Amerc is crap, there's no better description of their product.

If you think Amerc is cheap, consider the cost of a trip to the Emergency Room!

I have shot it and it seemed to be pretty good, however watch for the amount of cartridges you get for the price. For instance they don't 50 22 in a box, only 40.:scrutiny:

Yeah, it was the worst ammo I ever used. It was dirty and under-powered, and not too accurate either. Their brass is so thin and cheap that you can't even use it for reloading. I bought some of that ammo for my .45 Colt and never will again!

Again, that is American Eagle/Federal. What is being discussed here is American Ammunition, no relation with Federal.

For the record - American Eagle is good ammo.

American Ammunition is bad ammo. A few years back I was dumb enough to grab a couple of boxes in 9mm. My Springfield XD, which has digested everything I've ever fed it including some questionable reloads, simply would not operate reliably with the A-Merc stamped 9mm. At least one feed problem or jam per magazine along with several failures to fire.

The range where I used to hang out bought a bunch of it in 9mm and 45 about the same time. They had the same problems.

p.s. - "Search" is your friend.

I bought a box of the .45ACP and a box of .38Spl. That .45ACP stuff is THE ONLY ammo that had ever failed to function in my KP-90 Ruger. Rugers have a very weel-deserved reputation for eating anything you feed them. NOT SO with A-merc ammo.

The .38Spl stuff was keyholeing at 5 yards, and was all over the target...more like a shotgun patter. Then I tried it in my .357 Vaquero...no better...shooting buddy tried some in his S&W revolver...maybe a Mdl 10?

Then we looked closely at some of those rounds.."Hey, the crimp looks a bit....uhmm ahh "odd" Checked with micrometer....diameter was .353/.354 too small for even 9MM Parabellum.

Now, American Eagle packed by Federal Cartridge...good value priced stuff.

My expererince with American Ammunition (.38 Spl), like most here, was underwhelming to say the least. :banghead:

I've never fired loaded Amerc ammo. I once tried to reload some of their .38 Special brass. It was simply dispicable, utterly the worst brass I've ever seen.

I'd rather try to reload aluminum Berdan primed Blazers... with Boxer primers!

Now I remember why I not only did not buy any more Amerc
but threw away the brass! Thanks for reviving a repressed nightmare!

Anyway, people, let's not confuse American Eagle (Federal) with the
other stuff. Federal did (may be still does) sell .22 ammo 40 to a box.
I did not see Amerc sell .22 rimfire, just centerfire, but I can't say
for sure, for I have avoided the Amerc brand. For all I know, they
may have cleaned up their act in the meantime.

The Amerc ammo reminded me of a "Bubba Joe" brand ammo (not
the real brand name) that looked like it was loaded in somebody's
basement (it was) and sold at a gun show table.

That is good training ammo - it prepares you to do the tap-rack-bang drill as second nature. :D

I bought some from Sportsmans Guide awhile back. You know the old saying ... "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Never again. The stuff is complete, total, unadulterated junk. Aside from being dirty, the brass is out of spec and I experienced probably about a 75% or higher rate of failures to feed or failures to return to battery using the stuff.

Avoid it like you would avoid bubonic plague.

Save your money and use it to buy better ammo. The money saved will be used up and then some tring to clean the powder fouling.

Is the stuff in the blue box the same company as this ?

This box has pictures of cartidges on it. S-G has 250 rounds for $78 it is a cowboy load in .45 colt.

Oh my god - I used the zoom feature and it is A-merc but a diff. round and box?

Anyone use this in .45 and re-load the brass?

The .38 Specials that a friend had came in a blow molded plastic container with individual places for the rounds. I COULDN'T reload it. I pitched it all... I hope. I've got at least several hundred brass .38 cases to sort and count. I'll be paying EXTRA attention to make sure no Amercs slip through. Thank goodness the vast majority of my cases are nickeled.
