Anyone heard of Alfa-Proj??

hi,
Most of their earlier .38 Special and rimfire revolvers were zinc-alloy framed, mechanically based on Rohm RG69 gas-alarm revolver.

But 1 or 2 years ago they introduced a new "Steel" line, in .357 Magnum caliber. I tested one of those new revolvers, and was quite impressed, the thing was very accurate, even with hot selfdefence ammo, and fit and finish was more than acceptable. Trigger is fair for a service-type K-frame .357 Mag.

The new price here is about 450 USD for a 4", adj. sight, (comfortable) wooden combat grip, hardchromed modell. About the 40% of a new SW 686's price. Bargain.

gvass,

Thanks for your reply. They had me intrigued, as firearms from the Brno region generally tend to be of high quality.

How do you reccon these revolvers compare to the Ruger GP-100? As this is what I had my heart set on, untill I head that the Alfa-Proj may be made available here.

Two different animals. The GP100 is a brutal, massive bastard, without any elegance (IMHO!).

The Alfa revolvers are much slimmer, these are viable alternatives not for the magnum-maniac reloader, but for a K-frame Taurus, Rossi or similar instead.

Good point. That's calling a spade a spade.

But I still really like the GP-100, and will get that instead.

I was just shocked when I found a production gun I didn't know about...lol. Thanks for your help in brushing away the mystery from the Alfa.

The carbine?

357, 12 inch barrel? this is legal?

They Say it's licensed. ok.. I want one. and a matching pistol, in a 6 inch barrel. for 60% of the price of a freedom arms 357? .. with no side lock? and THAT pretty? really?

lemme see, that's taxes, transfer fees, a case of ammo, and custom leather, and a steak dinner, and i'm not touching 2000$ yet? let me guess there are speedloaders that'll fit it..

hmm. i wonder if stock in this company is for sale.. ;)

"357, 12 inch barrel? this is legal?"

With shoulder stock in USA, NO!
Without stock: YES

In Czech republik, with shoulder stock (for licence) it is legal. With 8" barrel, shoulder stock, in 4 mm Rimfire it is legal without licence.

Gun Laws are interesting sometimes:))

You will have to elaborate on this for the outsider.

Why does a revolver with a 12'' barrel on it become illegal in the U.S. when you put a rifle stock on it?

"Why does a revolver with a 12'' barrel on it become illegal in the U.S. when you put a rifle stock on it?"

Under 16" barrel length it considered as SBR (short barreled rifle), which is an NFA-weapon, you need special licence and tax.

"Oh, right. Thanks for that, now I know.

Is that for all states?"

Yes: NFA= _National_ Firearms Act.

In some states you can get Class3 license quite easily, and in some states NOT at all. But everywehere must pay the tax and do the paperwork for the license.

More on the topic in the "Legal and political" forum group.

Your not kidding ;)

The tax isn't a big surpirse. This seems to be any democratic governement's second main concern (getting relected being the first, of course).

Thanks for the insight.
