I'am thinking of getting one of these but would like feedback from those of you who own one first. I am interested in the 9mm model as a ccw gun and I figure with the AWB ending next month it will hold maybe 12 or 13+1 which would be nice in such a small package. For those of you who own one of the cz's whats your take on it how is it as far as reliability goes?
 
I don't have a RAMI but I do love CZ. The RAMI's magazines will only hold 10 rounds. Any more than that and it wouldn't be flush fitting. It will accept standard capacity mags from the CZ compacts and the full sized 75 series. But like I said, they stick out a bit. Check out the CZforum . There is a whole forum there dedicated to the RAMI. If it wasn't possible that CZ would be coming out with the 75B in Stainless Steel I would be puchasing a RAMI. They seem like great little guns.

My RAMI .40 S&W is the only CZ I've ever owned (out of 10) that has had any type of malfunction. When shooting WWB ammo, the flat point (meplate?) of the bullet hit the feed ramp and stopped, jamming the slide open. This happened twice in 200 rounds of WWB. S&B and Winchester Silver Tips worked perfectly. I polished the feed ramp with crocus cloth and finished up with some jewelers rouge. 250 rounds of WWB and no FTF's since. Best accuracy has been with S&B hardball. Overall, I'm very pleased with my RAMI. YMMV. Shoot well and often.
 
The RAMI was designed around a 10 round 9mm magazine, but will take full size 15 or 16 round factory magazines. They do, of course, protrude. So you can take the RAMI 9mm with 10+1 rounds and a spare mag with 16 and have 27 rounds on tap in a very small package.

I have a .40 S&W RAMI and I like it a lot. Still working out the ideal load to carry in it. I'm still looking for the COL that will make my Rem Golden Saber reloads feed reliably. I also forgot to lube the gun so that might have contributed to my feed problems :uhoh:

I've never shot factory ammo through it and it's still in the first 200 rounds so can't really vouch for it's reliability yet.

CZ RAMI 9MM

My son has a RAMI and I have two of them. They are all chambered in 9MM. We have put several hundred rounds through our RAMIs and they have been perfect. As has been mentioned, the RAMIs will handle the CZ Compact 9MM magazines (14 rounds) which stick out of the grip one inch and the full size magazines (16 rounds) which protrudes one and one half inches. At short ranges (15 yards and under), we find that the RAMIs are as accurate as our PCRs and P01s. The RAMIs are our CCWs.

My advice would be to handle one, if possible, prior to purchase. Some people do not like the fact that for most folks, your pinky finger is under the grip when using a 10 round magazine. This does not bother my son and I at all and does not seem to affect our accuracy.
 
I handled one a few weeks ago and came a hair from buying it. It was the 9mm version and like the previous post says I didn't care too much for my pinky being curled under the mag. Some people prefer it that way and argue that making it any longer would defeat the purpose of what the gun was designed for in the first place. It does feel really nice in the hand though. You can carry cocked and locked if you want or hammer down and double action mode. The only thing is that the safety CANNOT be used to lower the hammer like on a Beretta 92, you have to lower it manually like a 1911.
I did talk to CZ about the RAMI 9mm and they told me that there is a mag upgrade on the way for the 40 cal that will enable it to hold 10+1 and that they are working on a 9mm mag that will have a short extension on the bottom to allow for the pinkie, but it won't show up until late fall. Take all that for what it's worth, it came from one of the tech guys at CZ.

I bought one in 9mm a while back for a carry gun. I like it a lot. Mine only has probably around 125 rounds through it so far, but no failures at all with JHP and FMJ. I like the feel of it and you get a lot of capacity for the size. Priced reasonably for a new gun too. I'm not finding anything to dislike about this gun.

Would you mind comparing and contrasting the Rami with the PCR and the P01?

Are they significantly smaller than the PCR?

The PCR and P-01 are basically the same size except for the light rail on the P-01. Here is a pic of a P-01 and a RAMI. There is a significant difference. The P-01 is a compact, the RAMI is a sub-compact.

If you are familiar with Glocks, its a lot like the difference between a G19 and a G26.
 
CZ RAMI vs PCR/P01

As DDGator said, the PCR and P01 are very close in size. The PCR/P01 are compact pistols. The RAMI is a sub-compact. The RAMI barrel is about .8 inch shorter that the PCR/P01, which makes it a great concealed carry pistol. I find that at less than 15 yards the RAMI is as accurate as the PCR or P01. My choice for strictly CCW is the RAMI. However, for a range and general purpose self-defense gun, I prefer the either the PCR or P01. They all are great pistols.

Compared to my Glocks and Kahrs, I did not care for the Rami trigger, at all. The trigger felt gritty and not real smooth like the Kahr's. Not being a gunsmith, I don't know if any trigger work can be done to smooth the Rami trigger. This was a major factor for me when I crossed the Rami off my wish list. Just my $.02 worth.

Maybe in DA mode -- but in SA mode? Ehh, compared to my Glock's the RAMI blows them away IMHO. Oh, and a CZ pistol usually takes 300-500 dry fires to -really- get the trigger smoothed out. A gunsmith can work them over even better I'm told but I'm not really interested in that.

Everybody has their preferences... but I never thought I'd hear somebody say a Glock trigger feels better than a CZ trigger. :)
 
Oh, yeah, the reason I was reading this thread.

Yes, I've got a RAMI in .40S&W. I have gotten failure to feeds with hardball ammo but I'm not sure if this is my limp wristing it a bit or if it's a rough feed ramp. I'll polish the ramp up anyway.

It feels pretty comfotable in my small hands, but my pinky does slide off the bottom. It's not something that bothers me much personally. I can't say that I have any regrets about purchasing this pistol at all. My other CZ has served me well and I don't imagine this one will be any different.

Oh, and I don't know what it is -- but CZ pistols just look classy to me. I have no idea why. 'Specially when you get some Hakan Pek grips on them.

Can't wait to get my 1st holster from HBE -- after that I'll have to order one up for my RAMI.

Are you related to David W. Arnold, the gun writer originally from South Africa? He was once editor of, "Handguns" and has a really nifty book out now on classic handguns.

As for the RAMI, P-01, etc., it bothers me that the hammers are meant to be in what looks (to these tired, traditional old eyes) to be a half-cock notch. Esthetically, it bothers me, and would seem likely to let dust, lint, etc. get down in front of the hammers.

No sir, I am not related to David W. Arnold. However, I have read some of his columns.

The RAMI can be carried cocked and locked, half cocked or hammer all the way down. My preference for carry is half cocked. It allows for a lighter DA trigger pull. I have not been concerned about your point about lint, dust, etc. getting in front of the hammer because I have carried a Colt Commander in condition one for about 25 years with no issues.
