I got a new 930 SPX this past weekend. I haven't fired it yet.

A couple questions:

1. I noticed alittle side to side wiggle room with the trigger group when its inside the receiver. Is this normal? My 590A1 has no side to side play for its trigger group.

2. Should the 930 SPX come with sling mounts? Mine did not.

3. What is the whole deal about raising and lowering the stock? It came with several adaptor thingys which I have no idea what to do with.

Anything else I should know about the 930 SPX? This is my first semi auto shotgun.
Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "wiggle room" but my SPX has no significant wiggle in the trigger group.

No sling mounts.

Mine did not come with adaptor "thingies" to raise or lower the stock. Maybe if you post a picture or two.

My SPX runs better "wet" than it does dry. Normally, I don't like much, if any, oil on my guns when I'm shooting them but my SPX seems to work a little better with a film of oil on it.

Take your SPX apart and give it a really good cleaning for optimal performance. I've talked to several people who got really dirty SPX's from the factory.

Break in your SPX with heavier loads to smooth things out. Once you run about 200 rounds through it, you should be able to shoot pretty much anything. I regularly shoot 2 3/4" 7.5 loads in mine.

I don't own a 930, but a look in your owners manual (page 20 iirc) will explain the stock "thingies" (known as 'spacers') and how they are installed (*if* needed)

I plead no contest about the 'wiggle room' regarding the trigger. imo there should be little to none if it's the assembly you are speaking of, very little if it is the trigger itself.

From what I've seen online and in person - the SPX has studs for a detachable sling on the stock and mag cap.
hth.

By wiggle room, I mean if I turn the gun upside down, and grasp the trigger cage I can move the trigger group side to side. It isn't super loose, but it is looser than my 590A1.

I see the hole in the stock for a sling mount, but I see no place to mount a sling on or near the mag tube.

I removed the barrel, gas tube, and inspected the chamber and my gun is actually quite clean. It is pretty dry, but I didn't notice any packing grease or grime. I'll still run a bit of oil through it before I try it out.

What load would be the best load for break in purposes?

Are you looking for a single point sling mount or for one that fits over the mag tube? I think the one I used over my mag tube was made for an 870.

My trigger group definitely doesn't wiggle like you described.

I used inexpensive 3" 00 that I found at my local Cabela's for my break-in ammo. I can't recall the brand off the top of my head. Just make sure you use a good heavy load and you should be fine.

I'll bet you a dollar that if you spray Break Free in the mag tube a bunch of brown stuff will run out.

I was looking to buy a sling that would attach to the existing factory stock mounting point and then I would need to buy a mount for the mag tube. I'd prefer a bottom mount front sling mount instead of a left or right side mount....

I'll double check and run a bit of CLP down the magtube, but the gun did look alot cleaner than I expected.

Mossberg makes plastic shims for all their shotguns so you can get a proper sight alignment. Try putting the weapon up to your shoulder in a natural manner and see if the rear stock needs to be lowered or raised for a proper Point of Aim technique. A smooth NATURAL flow with proper sight picture is the key and reason for the shims.
