I find the length of pull on this semi auto shotgun to be too long. I like my rifles and shotguns to be between 13.25 and 13.5 inches. Since the recoil buffer tube is in the stock, it's a bit more complicated that most LOP modifications. Has anyone shortened their LOP on this 930 SPX? If so, how easy, hard was it? Do you have a gunsmith you can reccomend? Many thanks.

Anyone? I can't be the first person who wants to do this. There is a big thick spacer before the nut that could likely be replaced with a washer. I think it just needs the interior bolt to be cut down a bit.

I could be wrong but I believe Total Protection Interactive is the site being referred to. Appears it's reg to read.

I looked very closely at the 930spx and was ready to buy one until I found out I couldn't attach a hogue 12" LOP stock to it. Shot my plans straight to hell, that little hogue stock is amazing and should be made to fit more models.

It is POSSIBLE to shorten the LOP on a Mossberg 930 stock.

The problem is, the recoil spring and tube that run down the length of the stock.

Here is a pictire of the nut that holds the stock on the tube....you can see there is almost 1/4" of threads exposed on the recoil tube.

The total length of the recoil tube is 11-9/16"

The spacer is roughly 5/8" wide

The nut itself is 7/16" wide

Cut the nut in half (or more), replace the spacer with a washer, remove the excess threads on the recoil tube (~7/16").... This is all without changing the spring length or anything "functional".

Place the synthetic stock back on and measure the distance from the outer edge of the stock to the end of the recoil tube. Should be about 1-1/4" or so.

Set up the table saw to that measurement and cut the stock back by whatever dimension you got above...

Get a Limbsaver "grind to fit" recoil pad, they're slightly thinner that the stock pad from Mossberg...

All of the above should take the "factory" LOP from 14" down to 12-1/2" or so...

It might be better to use a wood stock, too... They can be bought from Mossberg directly...

Excellent work and pictures Smitty, Thank You! I think there will be a 930 spx in my gun safe very soon.

I just wanted to give an update. I found a good shotgun gunsmith at a local sporting clay range (good tip to remember). He basically did as Smitty in CT pointed out above. He removed the spacer & went to a flat washer, cut off some of the threads & maybe threaded a bit deeper, cut down width of bolt, and installed a KickEase pad (using an aluminum spacer between stock & pad so holes more easily aligned. In doing so, he was able to get a LOP of 13". The cost was $200 (I was very happy about the price). I am happy with the results. I'm point this out just to let folks know it can be done. I didn't find much out there on the internet about others doing so and thought it might be worth documenting. This won't replace my pump for home defense but I do like the much shorter LOP I now have with this semi auto.

This is very helpful - I'm considering shorting my 930 (wood stock, non-SPX). I have long arms so it's not uncomfortable, but this is my 3-gun shotgun and a little shorter LOP might make it a little handier.
