Well, I bought a new 930 SPX a few weeks ago. Finally got a chance to try it this past weekend.

I tried out the cheap 1200 FPS Remington shells from WalMart. They are the Sporting Shells in the green box. Fired about 40 of them through the gun including a 7 round rapid fire. The SPX worked perfectly.

I did not clean the gun or anything before firing it for the first time. It ran like a charm!

Good for you! I have always wanted a 930 and will most probably be included in my collection in a distant future. I saw one in a LGS for $550 and was thinking of trading it in for my 879 12 guage express but needed the $$ for Christmas shopping.

Price

I see Bud's has them for $583 included shipping is that a good price?

I am probably going to pick one up. Number two in the que.

Also, pro shooter, Jerry Miculek used one to win the 2010 USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals....
I had heard he had signed to use the 930...I would love to know what mods, and how much they cost, he has done to it to keep it running.

We're had a couple of locals running the SPX in local matches who were having feeding problems...needless to say, the SLP shooters gave them lots of friendly ribbing

Over on Brian Enos' forum Benny Hill has been putting together a 930 competition model. He's sending a prototype to Mossberg so they can (hopefully) build an out of the box competition ready gun. I know he had some special 24" non ported barrels made up for him.

The biggest problem with the 930 for 3 gun right now is the barrel, from what I've read. The SPX only has an 18" barrel with no chokes, and the longer barreled models are all ported which puts you in open class. I just bought a 26" barreled model that I'm going to have cut down just before the ports and rethreaded.

As for keeping them running my understanding is that when they're brand new you want to run a few boxes of heavy loads through them to break them in, and also clean them thoroughly before the first use. Apparently Mossberg packs the internals in a preservative grease from the factory which for some people can cause reliability issues. I've also read that every 50-75 rounds they need a squirt or two of CLP. I haven't picked mine up yet but when I do I'll post my adventures with it.
