I'm thinking of joining, and I'd like to hear about what it's like, most especially if you're in one of the Austin-based brigades. I have an message in to a recruiter, so they'll probably call next week.

I am also interested. I wonder how professional they are, or are they just a bunch of good ole boys? Is it political or is rank based on merit, etc.? John

The TSG seems to vary with area. Some groups seem to be Rotary or Lions with some military orientation. Others seem to be good ol' boys with the less-salubrious militia orientation.

We had one guy here at Terlingua try to organized a unit, back some fifteen years ago. He was rather "off", however, and only attracted some of the local losers--and then, only briefly.

I used to be in the Texas Guard. I was impressed by the professionalism and the desire for training. I was an E-6 (SSGT) in armor and mech infantry units. I had a ball. We had lots of ammo to shoot up each summer at Fort Hood.
